You could get an Exp boost from shop, but it is better to just learn as you play rather than set yourself up amongst high level players while you're obviously behind.
If you're dying often as Volibear, remember to build tanky and only be aggressive when your team is there.
Good supports are one's such as Janna or Thresh, or if you still consider yourself new, try out Sona, Soraka, or Taric.

If you want to help me, teach me.
I main support role, and play Thresh whenever possible. I love him :D
I would not recommend to start supporting with aggresive or squishy supports like Thresh, Leona, Lulu, Annie, Fiddlesticks and such. Your team mates would report you and blame you for everything. When I first tried Thresh, I was confused and hated him, as he had no heal and I did not understand him as well (how can you supp without heal ability, right? :D)
But for starters I would really recommend Soraka. Reasons:
- she costs just 450 IP
- has heal, restores mana to allies, has silence, has global heal
- no skill shots (firstly learn how to support, then you can try champs with skill shots)
- passive support, who can go somewhat aggresive (especially in pre lvl30 games)
- you will have plenty of time to observe the game mechanics and to learn
With Soraka, your lane will have a great sustain, you can save ***es for which people would be grateful and if you get good, you can start harass people as well. And knowing when to silence the right enemy in team fight, is priceless.
Now that I think about it, I really am adamant about this champion, that this should be No.1 pick for learning how to support.
Don't forgett to check guides about runes, masteries and item sets, YouTube videos of pro players playing and commenting soraka games... and play play play.
And when you hit about lvl 25 and will think your suporting is OK (you know you're good if people are not complaining about your support, or are praising you), then you can look for some other, really strong support champion, that is viable also in ranked games.
Important note: as a support, turn off your auto attack. People get mad if you last hit their creeps :)
One thing about runes: do not buy ANY runes before lvl 20, since any runes below Tier 3 are useless.
P.S: I also do not recommend to buy any boosts from the shop. Save your RP's for sales of some pricey champs you want to get.
