[15.02] Draven Guide by misterfirstblood v2

By misterfirstblood
Introduction
Welcome to the League of Draven ... oh, I mean

Hello guys, I'm MisterFirstBlood from EUW, and today I'm going to show you how to play Draven.

Playing Draven makes you the biggest lane bully in the entire game, offering the most rewarding and the most punishing gameplay experience at the same time.

Be aware that it can take a while for you to master his mechanics. Your champion choice will likely be the deciding factor in whether the game ends swiftly in your favor or your opponents' favor. Draven thrives on high-risk, high-reward playstyle, and once you get the hang of catching axes, you will dominate your lane and carry your team to victory. But remember, dropping those axes can mean the difference between life and death.

So, let's dive in and embrace the power of the Glorious Executioner!
Pro's and con's
+ Strongest ADC in early game.

+ Can generate a lot of extra gold.

+ Snowballing the game is easy when you get a lead.

+ Amazing damage output.

+ You will improve by playing Draven. Not to die, catch all axes, move between your attacks—everything you need to get better in League.

+ Tyler will be proud when you do well.

- No mobility except movement speed from W.

- You will be focused very hard when playing Draven.

- You should not die, or you will lose 75% of your stacks.

- When Draven is behind, he's in a very bad situation. There is no room for mistakes.

- Hard to master.

- Tyler will be sad when you lose.
Abilities
Passive: League of Draven
Draven gains his fans' Adoration when he catches a Spinning Axe or kills a minion, monster, or tower. Killing enemy champions grants Draven bonus gold based on how much Adoration he has.

Q: Spinning Axe

Draven's next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.

W: Blood Rush
Draven gains increased Move Speed and Attack Speed. The Move Speed bonus decreases rapidly over its duration. Catching a Spinning Axe will refresh the cooldown of Blood Rush.

E: Stand Aside
Draven throws his axes, dealing physical damage to targets hit and knocking them aside. Targets hit are slowed.

R: Whirling Death

Draven hurls two massive axes to deal physical damage to each unit struck. Whirling Death slowly reverses direction and returns to Draven after striking an enemy champion. Draven may also activate this ability while the axes are in flight to cause it to return early. Deals less damage for each unit hit and resets when the axes reverse direction. Executes enemies who have less health than Draven's number of Adoration stacks.
Items
Bloodthirster and The Collector are two of the best initial item purchases available. Followed by Infinity Edge, you will already hit like a truck. If you feel confident that you won't need sustain or want to push snowballing further, you could opt for Hubris. To finalize your item build, it's important to know how to maintain your DPS.

Armor Penetration: Lord Dominik's Regards is the go-to choice.

Healing Reduction: Mortal Reminder is a key purchase.

Survivability: Mercurial Scimitar or Immortal Shieldbow are excellent options.
Runes
Lethal Tempo is currently the most common choice. Presence of Mind solves some of your sustain issues while laning, and Legend: Alacrity gives you additional attack speed, which translates to more damage. This is preferable as you likely already have a lot of lifesteal in your build. Last Stand synergizes well with Draven's risky playstyle, excelling in all-in situations.

For your secondary rune tree, I recommend Domination. Eyeball Collection and Treasure Hunter are great choices as they benefit from killing champions—something Draven excels at. These runes also complement Draven's passive, further increasing your gold income when snowballing.
Tips
Last-hitting is very easy with Draven. Try to kill every minion in the wave with your Q and catch every axe to maximize the value from your passive.

Don't catch every axe in fights. Enemies can predict your movement based on where your axe is going to land and punish you.

Play as aggressively as possible, but also defensively enough to avoid dying. Your goal is to secure kills without giving away any.

In 2v2 trades, focus on one target. It's better to kill one champion than to reduce the health of two champions by half.

Use your ultimate to execute escaping enemies.

When ganked, deny gap-closers with your E, activate W, and don't forget your stopwatch. It's possible to win 3v2 situations if the enemies misplay and can't handle the minion waves.

Refresh your Q duration by reactivating it before it ends. You can also refresh it by attacking jungle monsters, towers, and wards.

When chasing an enemy, make sure to catch every axe. This allows you to permanently activate W, making it easier to catch them.

You can theoretically handle 3-4 axes at the same time. Catching every axe makes your movement predictable, so intentionally not catching an axe or two can be a strategic move if you use this mechanic wisely.
Summary and other guides
Draven is undoubtedly one of the most challenging ADCs to master, but the effort is well worth it. His unique playstyle and mechanics require a significant amount of practice and precision. You can't expect to become a Draven god after just a few games; it takes dedication and time to truly excel with him. However, the skills and knowledge you gain from playing Draven will benefit your overall performance as an ADC.

One of the key aspects of playing Draven is mastering the art of catching his spinning axes while maintaining aggressive positioning. This involves moving between attacks to avoid being an easy target for your enemies while still dealing maximum damage. The ability to catch axes consistently and manage Draven's positioning is crucial for maximizing his damage output.

Another important aspect is knowing when to engage and when to play defensively. Draven thrives in aggressive plays, but overcommitting can lead to disastrous outcomes. Balancing aggression with caution is essential to avoid unnecessary deaths and to capitalize on opportunities for kills.

Draven's passive, League of Draven, provides an additional layer of complexity and rewards aggressive play. Capitalizing on his passive by securing kills and cashing in on his stacks can lead to a snowballing effect, making him a formidable force in the game.

Additionally, mastering Draven's abilities, such as his Stand Aside (E) to disrupt enemies and his Whirling Death (R) for executing low-health targets, is vital for making impactful plays.

Overall, Draven is a champion that allows for high-risk, high-reward gameplay. The satisfaction of landing a perfect combo and seeing the enemy team crumble is unmatched. While he may be difficult to master, the skills you develop with Draven—such as precise positioning, aggressive playstyle, and efficient use of abilities—can be applied to other ADCs, improving your performance across the board.
