One of his hardest matchups if the LeBlanc knows how to space. Wind-Walling her Q is fine, but only if you know she cant hit her E after. Never let her hit E. If she ever wastes W, that is your opportunity to punish because she can't run away. If you can get on top of her while it's down, it will almost always be a winning trade.
Vex
This matchup is very difficult for unexperienced players because of her passive. Every time you dash her passive makes her auto's and abilities empowered, so E carefully.
Don't fight her with her fear W up because the CC is hard to avoid and its shield makes it impossible to win the trade. If her W is down or if she doesn't have the fear stacked, you can still win the trade because her other abilities are Wind-Wallable.
If she can't fear you, you can get a longer trade with more autos which is favorable for Yasuo.
Jax
Very hard to win this matchup if the Jax knows how to properly use E.
Try playing around the Jax E cooldown. Something you can do to bait it out is stand near something you can dash to (minions), and react to the Jax jumping on you with your dash and dodging his E stun. Then you can dash back in to get a favorable trade. It is also possible to dash through the Jax while he is mid Q and dodge his E that way, but this method is pretty hard to pull off.
Pantheon
His Q is longer range than your Q so you can't space him like other melee matchups. Make sure not to get hit by it (especially if it's empowered), but if he ever uses the long range Q, you can win the trade, because his Q will be on a very long cooldown.
Getting longer trades will win you this matchup, but his W and E make doing that difficult. Position the wave near your tower so that after you go in and he blows his spells on you, you have a lot more room to get a longer trade.
If you are mindful about his empowered abilities, this matchup is not that bad.
Renekton
THE RENEKTON MATCHUP IS EASY IF YOU PLAY AROUND HIS FURY
The first 3 levels in this matchup are the most important. You hard win level 1, so use that to zone him from autoing the minions and getting fury for free by using your Q.
Never let him hit you with a fury W if he has E because he will use his full combo and just e away.
Position the wave near your tower so he's further away from his tower and you can look for longer trades
Taliyah
Taliyah only really becomes a problem after level 9 when she can use Q every second. Before then, just try not to get Q'd for no reason.
Her E seems like a Yasuo counter, but it's also not really a problem in lane because its CC isn't that long. Usually if you dash towards her, any decent Taliyah will react with their E to stun you, but by the time they try and W you, you will be out of the stun, and you can dash onto her again. Just make sure to use your Wind Wall on her Q so she doesn't proc phase rush and run away.
Tristana
Go Doran's Shield and Second Wind
She has a very long AA range careful not to get autoed for no reason.
All of her trading power comes from her E, so don't let her explode it (getting hit by it is fine as long as it doesn't explode)
If you have low ping, you can try and Wind Walling her E because her E animation is a big jump, but if you can't react to it, try and predict it.
Just play around your Wind Wall timer and you should be fine.
Azir
One of Yasuo's most annoying matchups. You can almost never get priority in lane without taking a bad trade, so focus on keeping the wave on your side without letting him crash it for free.
After he gets item components and a few points in W, his soldiers start do do a lot of damage, so try and create an advantage before first base.
After level 6, its pretty hard to trade with him because he will just R you into tower.
This is kind of hard to do, but you can bait out his R by walking in and out of its range. If he has no R it is easy to kill him even after level 6.
Another tip is that his E collides with enemy champions, so stand on top of if you don't want him to escape.
Darius
Take Exhaust/Ignite to make this lane playable.
Never let him stack his passive on you 5 times. Use the minions to space him. Since spacing is so important in this matchup make sure to buy Berserkers early.
Also, don't let him hit his outside Q because it heals him. Sometimes dodging into him is the best way to dodge it, and using E on him makes that very easy.
Riven
Take exhaust
Most of her damage comes from her Q, so if she wastes it you have a small window to get a good trade. If she ever wastes her Q to gap close to you early game, she is just inting.
If she is holding Q, try to poke her by using your Q max range and Eing away to safety so she can't punish you. Once you poke her enough you can look for an all in.
Riven has a very big lethal range with her full combo + ignite, so respect her.
You need to lose this matchup a couple of times to really get the hang of it.
Malphite
Like all tank matchups, the matchup gets very hard after they stacks some armor, so don't buy tier 2 boots until you have BORK.
Usually Malphites will try to use Q and poke you down, so make sure you have passive shield or windwall before you walk into its range. Malphite Q also steals Movement Speed so make sure to Wind Wall that so he can't escape when you trade.
Besides his Q, he is a very low range, so space him well well with your Q and long auto range.
If he has grasp, don't get hit by his Grasp autos for no reason.
His E also reduces Attack speed, so if you ever get hit by it, just get out because you wont win the trade. You can also try and bait this ability out by walking in and out of its range.
Lissandra
Take cleanse if you struggle in this matchup
Don't get poked down by her Q.
Her W completely stops your trade, but its a long cooldown. You should trade by going in to bait out her W and Wind Walling her Q if she has it, dash back out, and when she walks back in, dash onto her and get a good trade.
Her E is her only escape, but its Wind Wallable. If you can ever get behind her and Wind Wall her E she has no escape.
Lissandra with R has one of the best gank setups in the game, so make sure to only trade against her Post 6 if you know where the JG is.
Akali
Her E is the highest damage non-ultimate single target skill in the game, so it is very important to either dodge it or Wind Wall it.
Its also pretty hard to get a good trade when she Shrouds (W) so try and bait it out before you go for a full trade.
Wind Walling her Q is also good to get favorable trades, but make sure to dodge her E after.
Annie
Her auto range is one of the largest in the game, so be careful not to get poked down by it.
Her Q is the only Wind Wallable spell, so windwall it. FYI if you Wind Wall her Q, it doesn't give her a passive stack, but if she has passive (stun) stacked and you Wind Wall her Q, it doesn't consume the stun.
Overall the matchup isn't that hard. Just play around her passive and you should be good.
Aurora
Try not to get poked down by her Q because it has a very long range. Her Q is also her only Wind Wallable spell.
Try not to let her proc her 3 hit passive
The invis form her W can be canceled if you knock her up during her W dash.
Her E is also very long range and she can use it to poke as well, but it is a big part of her damage. If it is ever down, try to punish her. This is the main thing you have to worry about in lane because her Q is easy to play around.
Cassiopeia
One of the most fun matchups, but it requires good micro to win.
Every single one of her abilities in her kit can be completely countered by a part of Yasuo's kit, but if you make 1 mistake, it could ruin your lane.
Make sure to dodge her Q with good sidesteps/dashes (E) because her Q gives her movement speed and maker her E do more damage.
Her W is Wind Wallable, and it should be what you should mainly focus on Wind Walling in this matchup, but if you get hit by Q, it is ok to Wind Wall her E damage.
Her R only stuns if you are facing her, so turn your character model away when she's in her Ult animation.
Fiora
Try not to let her hit your vitals. If the vital is facing her, you can walk away and come back, and the vital will respawn on the other side, which will make it hard for her to hit. You can stand next to a wall so her vital isn't hittable.
Her Parry (W) is Wind Wallable and has a similar Cooldown to Wind Wall, so always use Wind Wall to block it.
Galio
Galio has a lot of CC which makes it hard for Yasuo to win short trades against him. Luckily, his passive (AOE auto) and Q make it impossible for him to freeze. So when he inevitably pushes the wave, keep it frozen near your tower so you can go for longer trades or ask for a gank. Try to get hit by his E if he uses it to escape because it stops his dash.
His Q is Wind Wallable.
Dodge his E with your E.
Kennen
Annoying matchup because of his movement speed from E and his stuns. If you can avoid getting stunned, you can get a good trade. If his E is ever down he has no escape, so he has respect you. If he doesn't you can easily get a good trade.
Wind Walling/dodging his Q is key in this matchup because it's his main damage source.
Taking exhaust is fine if you struggle against this matchup.
Poppy
An annoying matchup if the poppy has good movement. Since her hit box is small and she has high base movement speed, she can be hard to hit with Qs.
Wind Wall her ranged passive auto ESPECIALLY if she has grasp stacked.
Walk over her shield when it drops.
Her W is a counter to Yasuo E, so don't E while you are next to her.
It's ok to get hit by the first part of her Q, but don't get hit by the second part. Focus on having good moment so you can dodge it.
Don't stand next to walls and get stunned by her E.
Her ult long range ult is Wind Wallabe.
Rumble
As long as you don't get poked down by his Q (Flamethrower) you should be ok. If he ever uses it, respect it and back off. When it's down you can easily get a good trade.
His E reduces MR, so don't trade with him if he hits it. His E is also his only Wind Wallable spell, so Windwall it if you can't dodge it.
Be careful for when he overheats because his autos do a lot of damage, especially if you got hit by an E just before. One thing that is good about him overheating is that he can't use any spells, so you can easily space him with E and Q to get a good short trade.
Sett
Sett is really only difficult to face if you are a lower elo player. His range is incredibly low, so use that to your advantage by using your Q to poke him down from a safe distance. Good spacing is the key to win this matchup.
Be careful if he is ever standing between you and a minion because then he can stun you with his E.
If you get pulled by his E but it doesn't stun it is fine, but if it stuns, it is hard to trade back.
Dodge the middle of his W.
Don't get R'd into tower.
Akshan
Go Doran's Shield and Second Wind
You have to respect this champion the first 2 levels because that is the only point in the lane he wins. Its ok to drop some CS because until you get level 3 because Wind Wall completely counters him.
Akshan's E collides with terrain and enemy champions, so make sure to stand on top of him when you go all in so he can't escape.
Once he gets level 6 be careful of wasting your Wind Wall during trades where you get low. If you get low enough and don't have Wind Wall, he can just R and kill you as you are running away.
Gangplank
Don't get poked down by his Q. Use your passive shield and Wind Wall to tank it.
Don't get hit by his passive auto. Space it with your Q or wait for him to use it.
If he isn't standing on top of an already placed down barrel, you can dash through a minon onto the barrel and auto it before he can Q it.
His W cleanses all CC including knockups, so make sure to ult him before he cleanses the knockup. The animation of your ult will be canceled, but the damage will still go through. If you try to weave in an auto or E Q R'ing, he has time to cleanse the knockup, so just spam R.
Cho'Gath
Dodge his Q and it's unlosable. Sometimes they will walk into fog to try and bait you to walk up. Just anticipate the Q and you should be good.
Be careful of his W though because if he hits you with it, you wont be able to dash to dodge his Q and you have to rely on solely your side steps.
Try not to get hit by all 3 of his E's
Corki
Go Doran's Shield and Second Wind
Very straight forward like most ADC matchups. You just win after level 3. Just don't get poked down and die from auto's and you should be good.
Wind Wall his Q and the majority of his damage is gone from his trade.
Don't stand in his W because it does so much damage.
His E goes through your Wind Wall.
Irelia
Irelia is only strong if she stacks her passive, so if you want to win this matchup, you have to prevent her from stacking her passive.
The easiest way for her to stack her passive is to Q multiple low HP minons in a row, so don't stand near a bunch of your low hp minons. You can prevent your minons from all getting low at the same time by hitting the Irelia's wave so your minions become un aligned.
If only ONE of your minons are low, stand near it so if she Q's the minion you can punish her.
Her E is Wind Wallable if you put it anywhere in between the 2 points of her E.
Her R is also Wind Wallable, and you should focus on dodging that later in the game.
Mordekaiser
His Q is the majority of his damage, but it is very easy to dodge if you anticipate it. Focus on dodging this and the matchup should be easy.
Don't auto him with his passive AOE is active because you will lose the trade, UNLESS it's level 1. Just wait it out and go in for a trade after.
His E is even easier to dodge than his Q, just be mindful of it.
His R isn't that much of a problem if you are ahead, but if you are even or behind be careful because you are significantly weaker when you are in his Death Realm.
Garen
This matchup isn't that hard if you can poke him with your Q and space him with your E repeatedly. Spacing is the key to winning this matchup.
His Q on its own isn't that much of a problem because it doesn't do much damage and is only used for it's CC. His E on its own is also not that much of a problem because even though it's his main source of damage, if you have something to dash away to, he can't catch up to you. The problem is when he puts these 2 abilities together, and you can't escape his E damage because he silenced you beforehand.
A mechanic you can use to counter this is E'ing away when you see him mid Q animation. His Q will go through and do the damage, but your E is also buffered so you still dash and he can't E you. Then you can get a good trade while his abilities are down. Don't ever let him land his Q and full E duration on you.
His W reduces damage taken by 30%, so if you are trading and he activates it, get out.
Diana
Very easy matchup as long as you don't get poked down by her Q repeatedly.
If she has no W, losing a trade against her is almost impossible.
Camille
Use your Q to poke and E to space.
If you go for an all in. Be mindful of her passive shield when you trade because if she has it up the trade isn't winning.
Try not to get hit by her Q2.
Be mindful of her W because its long range and if she hits the outside of the range, it heals.
The first part of her E is Wind Wallable, but it's kind of hard to pull off.
Aurelion Sol
Really straight forward matchup. His early game sucks so take advantage of that.
As long as you don't stand in his Laser (Q) for too long, You should win every trade.
Try to knock him up as he E's away.
Fizz
HIs damage comes from his E if you don't get hit by it, you will win the trade. Use your E to dodge his E then punish him while it is down.
Gwen
Don't get hit by the middle of her stacked up Q and you should be FINE in this matchup.
Use your Wind Wall to block her R.
Hwei
Almost all of his abilities are Wind Wallable. Just be careful not to get poked by too many Q Q's in lane and you will never get killed.
Wind Walling/Dodging his E Q (fear) should be your priority because if he misses that, then you can just run him down with autos and Qs.
After level 9 when he gets a lot of points in Q, the lane becomes pretty uninteractive because of his high wave clear from his Q E (Long Orange Line). This makes killing him in lane difficult because he can safely clear the entire wave with a couple of abilities, then retreat into his tower. What you should do is Wind Wall his Q E, instantly clear your wave, then look around the map to do something (ward, roam, skirmish).
A small interaction most people don't know is that you can actually Wind Wall Hwei's snare (E W) after its on the ground as it is tethering towards you.
Jayce
Try to avoid his empowered autos from when he switches stances. Wind Wall his ranged form damage every trade and you should win the trade.
Be careful of his hammer form Q because if you are standing too close to the minions, he can Q it and the AOE will hit you too.
K'Sante
Be careful not to get hit by his empowered autos after he hits Q. With good movement you can dodge his Q kind of like how people dodge Yasuo Q.
His W is important to dodge because it sets up the rest of his combo, and after he R's the W does an insane amount of damage.
His E's range is extended when he targets allies including minions so watch out for him gap closing from really far and comboing you.
Karma
Kind of annoying, but as long as you don't get poked down by her Qs the lane is easily winnable. She has big mana problems until she gets some mana components and She has trouble CSing, so focus on getting a CS lead.
Kassadin
He is really weak early game, so take advantage of that by either freezing under tower so he is easy to run down the lane/get ganked, or by pushing him in and invading with your jungler.
Space out his W because that will be most of his damage in lane, but he needs to use it to CS, so fight him when it's down.
Kled
Wind Wall his Q and you win.
He can't control when his W activates, so wait until he uses it on a minion before trading.
Malzahar
Kill his voidlings (W) when he tries to push waves early in the lane because then his E doesn't spread and he can't push your wave. This makes it so you can set up the wave near your tower which.
When the wave is under your tower, he is very vulnurable to ganks because he has no mobility. He is also very easy to run down for a long trade because if he spawns his voidlings (W) you can use it to E and gap close onto him.
Nasus
Freeze on him early to set up ganks/get longer trades.
You can get priority whenever you want in this lane, so if your JG wants to invade, shove and invade with him.
Neeko
Her Q range and AOE is kind of annoying, but that is the only hard part about this lane.
Wind Wall her E if you want to get a better trade.
Orianna
Careful not to take too much damage from her Q W poke and this lane isn't hard.
If you Wind Wall her E so she doesn't get her shield, she can never win a trade.
Swain
Don't get poked down by his Q repeatedly. It is not Wind Wallable, so respect it early.
His E is Wind Wallable/.
His R's explosion is Wind Wallable.
Ornn
Ornn isn't a problem if you have good movement and spacing. The main thing you have to do in this matchup is avoid getting hit by his brittle autos from his W.
His Q sets up a big combo with his E, so don't stand near the pillar after it appears. However, his Q is Wind Wallable, so if you can't dodge it, you have another safe guard for it.
His ult is also Wind Wallable (both parts).
Qiyana
Qiyana isn't much of a threat. If she walks up for CS early, make sure to punish her for it because she is extremely weak early game.
Make sure to Wind Wall her ults late game because Wind Wall completely hard counters it.
Syndra
Her Q's are easy to dodge with good movement and using E. Don't get poked for nothing and you will be ok.
The most important thing for you to do in this lane is to Wind Wall her E. If you can ever Wind Wall her E after gap closing onto her, it is a guaranteed good trade or even a solo kill.
Her R is also Wind Wallable.
Sylas
Sylas excels at short trades because of his W (heal), so force him into a position where you can get a longer trade. You can do this by holding the wave on your side of the lane so he has to walk further towards to get to his tower.
Focus on Wind Walling his E during trades because that is most of his damage.
You can also Wind Wall his R (the stealing part) to prevent him from stealing your or your teammate's ultimate.
Ryze
Wind Wall his E so his W doesn't snare, and you can win most trades.
His W and E resets his Q cooldown.
If you CC him while he ults, it gets canceled.
Shen
Shen's Q does more damage if it passes through you, but you can Wind Wall it. You can bait the Shen to E though you, and as he is dashing you can Wind Wall towards his Q and this will stop it at the wall. This makes his trade do way less damage, while also preventing him from being able to stand in his W.
As long as you don't get hit by his Q autos over and over again this lane is fine.
Be careful when standing near the enemy tower because Shen's E can taunt you and make you auto him, which will make the tower target you.
Remember to ping your team that Shen has ult when he hits 6. If he ever does end up ulting to the other side of the map, this is your chance to create a big lead by taking free plates.
Gragas
His cool downs are very long early game so use that to your advantage.
His ideal trade pattern is to hit you with with E to stun you -> Q -> W auto -> Phase Rush speed to run away so you can't trade back. To counter this, you can Wind Wall as he E's so it prevents his phase rush proc and you can trade back.
Sometimes the Gragas will go ignite and electrocute to play for solo kills, but the same mechanic of Wind Walling as he E's applies to prevent his electrocute proc.
His R is also Wind Wallable
Ekko
Block his Q with Wind Wall and don't let him proc his 3 hit passive, and you should auto win this matchup.
Just be careful not to get stunned by his W because that is a free full combo for him. Sometimes what Ekko players do is they walk into fog of war to hide their W animation, so be careful whenever they step out of vision in lane.
Kayle
You have complete control over this lane. You can get prio whenever you want and even after 6 she is easy to kill.
If you want to set up easy kills, just hold the wave on your side of the lane and run her down once she steps up too far. Wind Wall her Q as she's running away and she's cooked. If she doesn't step up and perma respects you, then you can build a huge CS lead because she has to use Q and E to farm, which have long cooldowns early.
Illaoi
Wind Wall her E and dodge her tentacles with good movement. Rush boots to make this easier.
If she ever hits E then R's you, get out because you don't win. If she R's you without hitting E, then you just win.
Brand
Wind Wall his Q so he can’t stun you, and the trade is always won.
Don't get poked by his W because that is the only way you can lose.
You can also Wind Wall his R.
Anivia
Wind Wall her Q early game and you win every trade.
Try to stick very close on top of her as you auto so she can’t create space between you with her W.
Her E is empowered to targets she recently Q/R’d so it’s good to Wind Wall it to avoid a lot of damage.
Once she hits 6 the lane becomes way less interactive because her R clears waves very fast, and her R’s slow combined with her Q stun and Wall make it very hard to stick on top of her. The best thing you can in this situation is push the wave before her. Wind Wall her Q as she throws it out (not her E because the stun will make you take more damage) and you be the first to move to a roam/skirmish.
Heimerdinger
Don't keep trades too long because his turrets will start to hurt.
Wind Wall his E and you win every time.
Be careful of his R turret because it does a lot of damage. Play inside the Wind Wall whenever he has R.
Gnar
Wind Wall his Q and it’s on a 20 second cool down. Try not to let him hit his 3 hit passive. Take D shield second wind so you don’t get poked down by his autos.
Katarina
Her Q, W, and R are all Wind Wallable. This lane is free if you freeze on her near your tower because she has to CS with Q and she has to permanently respect you dashing through the minions to get a good trade on her. This will build you a huge CS lead, and sometimes the Katarina player will get tilted and do a coin flip roam. In that case, you can just shove the wave and get free platings.
Pyke
If you aren’t VS Davemon, don’t worry.
Pyke’s long Q and E are both Wind Wallable
Lux
Every ability except her R is Wind Wallable.
Focus on Wind Walling her Q so you can get a longer trade.
Once she hits level 9 she pushes waves very fast without much interaction, so be the first one to push the wave and you can be the first to move to all plays.
Seraphine
Don’t get poked down by her Q and you will win.
Wind Wall her E to win every trade.
Wind Wall her R in late game fights to remove a lot of her value.
Singed
Singed’s game plan every game is to shove the wave and roam. He con’t ever win a trade vs Yasuo, so what they normally do is take Phase Rush to poison the wave, flip you, and run away to proxy the next wave. If they take Conqueror they can’t do this, so just kill him if he over steps.
His W is Wind Wallable.
One BIG tip against anyone who proxies is to try and stop their proxy during cannon waves because Canon waves take longer to kill for him and for your tower, so you won’t lose anything.
Sion
Sion: His Damage comes from his Q, and you can dodge it super easily with E, or interrupt it with Q3.
His E is Wind Wallable.
Overall this matchup is unplayable for Sion.
Smolder
Useless champion because he is so weak early and you are so strong early. Just don’t get poked down by his autos, Qs, and W.
You can Wind Wall his entire kit, but focus on Wind Walling his W during early trades because his W slows and does a bit of damage.
You can have prio the entire game so make the game super hard for their JG to play, or you can freeze on him and make it hard for hi to CS.
Warwick
As long as you are good at spacing this matchup is easy. Don't let him auto you repeatedly. His auto range is tiny and yours is large so use that to your advantage. Poke him down with Q.
His E makes him take reduced damage so just be mindful of that. If you don't want to get hit by the fear, E away on the wave when he activates it.
Wukong
One of Yasuo's hardest matchups, especially if he takes ignite. You never win trades when he E's too. Try not to get hit by his Q's and just play around his ability cooldowns.
Always respect his all in once he hits 6.
Zed
Don't get poked down by his Q's and you should be good. (they are wind wallable)
Play around his W cooldown.
Zed will ALWAYS spawn behind you after he ults (unless he has a W shadow out already), so throw your abilities out behind you after he ults.
Matchup only becomes tricky if he has Conqueror with Ignite. If he does, be careful not to take that long of trades in the wave because he call kill you if he stacks Conqueror.
Sometimes if you have Q3 up (tornado) its better to just hold it rather than throw it at him because if you use it he can dodge it with R on you, and then it becomes an unfavorable position for you. Hold it so if he R's you can knock him up by throwing nado behind you.
