This guide was made by a silver player who just likes to make builds. I am not saying that these builds won't get you to challenger but I know I won't get there anytime soon.
Introduction
Howdy Reader and welcome to A Silver Player's Guide to. This one is on Volibear!
I am SirGRC and I started playing right before preseason 10 came out. I do not have a main or even a small pool of champions I like to play, probably why I am silver. Currently I am residing in the toplane while playing a lot of Yorick and Yorick and that is about it, actually there is Volibear now :D. I really like playing Volibear because of all the options you can go with him though I usually only go with the AD bruiser.

If you have questions or suggestions about the build feel free to message me on discord, Gene Rufus Cheesemen#6523! Don't be afraid to ask for a build too and I would be happy to make one!
Pros and Cons
Pros
+Very good early game damage.
+With the right build you cannot be built against
+A very good team-fighter.
+Ultimate will disable towers.

Cons
-Very predictable abilities.
-Can be left squishy with certain builds.
-Can be hard countered by CC.
-Relatively high cooldowns.
Top Rune Options
It is almost scary how easy Press the Attack can get stacked up. All you need to do is use Q, W, and add an auto attack somewhere and it is now all stacked up. Against a squishy target that combo will more than likely put them at half of their health.

Triumph will more than likely be your go to of the three. Overheal is only good if you have a lot of healing. Presence of Mind is only good if you are using a lot of mana which is very hard to do as Volibear.

Legend: Tenacity will more than likely be your go to of the three Legends. Although both Legend: Alacrity and Legend: Bloodline are good for Volibear, going with tenacity is the better of the two because Volibear is heavily countered by CC and reducing the duration of each CC will help tremendously. In the off chance they have very little CC, I would take Legend: Bloodline because it is just a better Ravenous Hunter and also because it is healing you no longer have to buy.

Last Stand will be your go to rune because in top lane it is typically long fights that will leave both of you and your opponent very low in health. You could go for Coup de Grace in the event you are laning against a very low health opponent. Never go for Cut Down, the odds of you having a lower max health compared to your opponents is very slim.

Shield Bash is the best of the three because of the fact you should be getting a shield in every fight, trade, or skirmish you take. Demolish can be an okay option but the damage you would be missing out from is very noticeable.

Revitalize is going to be the best of the three because it will give you a larger shield and then do more damage while paired with Shield Bash. It will also heal you for more with Frenzied Maul. You can go with Overgrowth if the team needs somebody who won't get one shot. You can also go with Unflinching if the other team has a lot of CC and you will be taking most of it, on top of them focusing their damage on you.

Grasp of the Undying is surpringly easy to get stacking. With Volibear's passvie The Relentless Storm you are almost always "in combat" because of how frequently a champion will be hit by the Lightning Claws.

Shield Bash is the best of the three because of the fact you should be getting a shield in every fight, trade, or skirmish you take. Demolish can be an okay option but the damage you would be missing out from is very noticeable

Conditioning is arguably the best of the three options because you will be receiving around 500 gold worth of stats for free. However, if you are not confident in your abilities to survive for that long then I would go Second Wind
into a poke heavy matchup or Bone Plating into a burst matchup.

Eyeball Collection going to be your best option, assuming you can even kill your lane opponent. It is "free" bonus damage for each new champion you kill. Ghost Poro is a good option if you aren't able to kill your lane opponent because you get the same result as Eyeball Collection but it will take much longer to stack up.

Ultimate Hunter is going to be the best choice of all the Hunters. Ravenous Hunter is very bad now because of the fact that you will start out at 0% Omnivamp. Ingenious Hunter is another very bad pick because you are not using a lot of active items with Volibear. You could make an argument for using Relentless Hunter but, outside of roaming around or for trying to get to your team faster it isn't that good. Plus, with Teleport you should be able to get around just fine.

OTHER RUNE OPTIONS

Precision

Press the Attack- This rune is incredibly easy to trigger on Volibear and because of that it is your go to rune for him! I am working on a new build with him and so it is too soon to recommended it on every build but for now, if you are going AD take Press the Attack!

Conqueror- Although it is easy to stack up, by the time it would be at 12 stacks the fight will be over. Either you died, they died, or they ran away. Volibear's cooldowns are just long enough to where it is hard to stack up and it isn't recommended to take. There are just better options

Overheal- A very good rune slot especially when paired with Legend: Bloodline. But, it will need further testing

Triumph- Great added rune which will give you a heal based off missing health and will be great for team fighting or dueling. It will also give you some bonus gold :)

Legend: Alacrity- The bonus AS given by this rune is wonderful for getting your passive stacked up quickly! Though the other two options are just a bit better. Would recommened taking with ADC or Assassin, not for top lane.

Legend: Tenacity- This rune will probably be the go to sense there will always be CC on a team and the last thing you want is to be chained down and unable to dive.

Legend: Bloodline- This rune is amazing especially once you get it stacked up. Take this bad boy if there is little to no hard CC on the other team.

Last Stand- This will probably be your go to filled slot sense you are a diver and you will be taking a lot of damage. Plus once you get a Sterak's Gage is built you will be getting a shield once you hit the cap for Last Stand's bonus damage.

Domination

Cheap Shot- Although Sudden Impact is better Cheap Shot is the only one Volibear will be able to activate with his kit.

Taste of Blood- If you are doing quick trades back and forth then this is a great pickup! The 20 second cooldown makes it pretty bad for long fights.

Ghost Poro- Take this cutie if you know you won't be able to kill your laner.

Eyeball Collection- Add to your collection as you kill your opponent.

Ultimate Hunter- Lower Ult cooldown which means you will be able to stun towers more often.

Sorcery

Transcendence- Free AH for more Qs, Ws, Es, and Rs!

Celerity- All move speed is now 7% faster and you get 1% faster in general!

Gathering Storm- Great if your games are taking a while to end!

Resolve

Grasp of the Undying- Amazing keystone for very short trading or very long extended fights as it deals bonus damage, heals, and increases your health every four seconds.

Aftershock- Every Q you land will make him "unkillable" for 2.5 seconds because it cranks up your armor and magic resist!

Demolish- Basically a free tower plating and will be nice sense Volibear doesn't do the best damage to tower.

Shield Bash- This will be your go to rune to fill. The damage done to tower is kinda meh but the trade off is well worth it. If you are worried about not getting your E shield then take this and use it as an incentive to get it because if you are able to kill your lane opponent then it is a free plate anyways.

Conditioning- If you are able to survive for 12 minutes than you get 500 gold worth of stats. It is a very good pickup.

Second Wind- Good pick into high poke or small trade lanes.

Bone Plating- Great pick into all in champions.

Overgrowth- Free health! That is really it. Great if you want to be more tanky.

Revitalize- Stronger healing and shielding.

Unflinching- Great item if the team has high CC as the lower Volibear gets in health the more Tenacity he gains.
Jungle Rune Options

Last Stand is going to better than the other two options because typically you are going to be targeted as the closest target. You could go for Coup de Grace but, I just prefer Last Stand more.

Nimbus Cloak is going to be the best item for most junglers as it gives a massive boost to move speed. Allowing you to keep up with whoever you are ganking.

Celerity is great option for Volibear because it will boost his move speed allowing him to show up for ganks and give the enemy laner less time to react.

OTHER RUNE OPTIONS

Precision

Press the Attack- This rune is very easy to proc with Volibear and is great for ganking sense you will very rarely be fighting in large groups until later in the game, or if a drake is up.

Conqueror- Less worth while in the jungle sense it takes a little while to stack up but still a good item to grab for games that go later on and you are team fighting a lot.

Domination

Predator- Take the speed ruin if you plan on doing something funny or serious if you plan on roaming. It gives bonus damage as well as increasing move speed!

Cheap Shot- Although Sudden Impact is better Cheap Shot is the only one Volibear will be able to activate with his kit.

Taste of Blood- If you are doing quick trades back and forth then this is a great pickup! The 20 second cooldown makes it pretty bad for long fights.

Zombie Ward- Take this if you find yourself destroying a lot of wards. Great in high elos, diamond+.

Eyeball Collection- Add to your collection as you kill your opponent.

Relentless Hunter- Great for getting around the map and very helpful for your ganks.

Ultimate Hunter- Lower Ult cooldown which means you will be able to stun towers more often.

Sorcery

Nimbus Cloak- Great pick up for catching up to your enemies and sticking to them. I would almost recommend Emberknife with this because you will be getting move speed from Nimbus. Though Hailblade is just as great because it will slow the opponents.

Celerity- All move speed is now 7% faster and you get 1% faster in general!

Waterwalking- Very helpful for moving around the map as well as taking care of drakes, heralds, barons, and skuttles!

Resolve

Aftershock- Every Q you land will make him "unkillable" for 2.5 seconds because it cranks up your armor and magic resist!

Demolish- Basically a free tower plating and will be nice sense Volibear doesn't do the best damage to tower.

Font of Life- Will heal your allies, assuming you land your Q.

Shield Bash- If you are able to get his E shield and then able to damage an opponent then it is an amazing spot and is arguably better than Demolish.

Conditioning- If you are able to survive for 12 minutes than you get 500 gold worth of stats. It is a very good pickup.

Overgrowth- Free health! That is really it. Great if you want to be more tanky.

Revitalize- Stronger healing and shielding.

Unflinching- Great item if the team has high CC as the lower Volibear gets in health the more Tenacity he gains.
Starting Items

Lane Starting Items

Doran's Ring- This one is probably the best starting mythic as it gives you a boost to your passive as well as beefing up your E slightly which is typically what is leveled first.

Doran's Shield- This is a great pick if you are getting poked down.

Doran's Blade- You should only be getting this if you plan on starting Q, Thundering Smash, and you should only be starting Q if you team plans on invading.

Jungle Starting Items

Emberknife- Buy this item if the other team has a lot of duelers such as Olaf, Diana, Darius, and Ornn. This is because this smite will reduce the damage you take while also increasing the damage you do.

Hailblade- Buy this item if the other team has a lot of mobile champions and you just need to catch up to them such as Fizz, Quinn, and Pyke.

Support Starting Items

Because Volibear will deal both AD and AP damage, it really doesn't matter if you go Steel Shoulderguards or Relic Shield. They both give such little stats to damage. I would say Relic Shield if you wanted to pick one because it does give more damage.
Mythic Items

AD Mythics

Trinity Force- This will be the best mythic with Volibear because it gives him everything that he needs. It gives AD for his high scaling abilities, AS to help get his passive activated faster, AH so he is able to use his Q stun, W heal, and E shield more often. Plus with its new mythic passive giving stacking AD and AH this will help immensely. The mythic passive also gives move speed which is one of the biggest thing Volibear needs! Not to mention the sheen for the bonus damage after a stun!

Stridebreaker- Similar reasons to Trinity Force it gives AD, AS, AH, and health. This item comes with an active that will dash you in a direction and then slow anybody hit in it's AOE. It also gives move speed as its mythic passive. The downside to this weapon is that it comes with no sheen, has a lower AS, and as more items are built it has less AD and AH. You would want to build this into and ADC or very mobile top laner.

Divine Sunderer- This one gives more AD and AH at the early stages of the game but it does give more health, period. It has a better sheen ability and both armor pen and magic pen. However, it does not give any AS nor does it give any MS because of that fact I wouldn't be building this unless it was into a very (3+) tanky team because tanks are typically very slow and the double pentation type makes it so they will have a harder time building against you.

Prowler's Claw- You know how Stridebreaker gives a dash that slows to make landing his Q stuns and Rs a lot easier? Well, now it is instant and a near guarantee stun. It will also give you some MASSIVE damage to his ult. However, it kinda lacks outside of funny Q stuns. It leaves you very squishy and on top of that you get more move speed from Trinity Force and Stridebreaker.

Goredrinker- Similar item to Divine Sunderer, but in a worse way. It comes with more AD but comes with no AS, MS, or Sheen. I think this could still be a good item on Volibear though because of how dive heavy the champion is.

Eclipse- This is another weird one like Prowler's Claw but I believe it could work. It gives the second highest AD out of the listed mythic items, omni-vamp, has a passive shield and an armor pen mythic passive. It does give more move speed if you are able to get the item's passive to proc. It does however leave you without any AS or AH.

Duskblade of Draktharr- Funny disco bear :D

Galeforce- Great Crit Mythic because it will give you MS and the execute dash.

Immortal Shieldbow- Another great crit mythic because of the lifeline shield it will give you.

AP Mythics

Riftmaker- A very strong item that gets even stronger if you are able to get it's item passive to activate because you will now be doing bonus true damage. It gives a good portion of AP, health, AH, and even gives healing in the form of Omnivamp! I would really recommend this into a very tanky team as well as taking Conq.

Night Harvester- This is probably the best AP mythic for Volibear. Taking PTA will add to the burst of damage you will be doing. It gives more AP and Health compared to Riftmaker. However you are missing out on easy healing and at later stages of the game Riftmaker will give more AP.

Hextech Rocketbelt- This is a close second to AP Volibear. It gives the same amount of AP as Night Harvester but with a little less health. It comes with a active dash that will then boost your move speed too. The mythic passive gives Magic Penetration so it will become a lot harder to build against him.

Everfrost- This Could be a very good item on Volibear because if you Q and the Everfrost you will be keeping them locked down for longer allowing for more damage to be done to them.

Tank Mythics

Turbo Chemtank- This is a great mythic to get because if gives you a good speed up which will then slow opponents to help you stick to them for a longer period of time.

Iceborn Gauntlet- This is another great one because of the slow it gives in the AOE after an auto attack. It is really good if you are able to get to the opponents because of how nice the slow it. I would almost say that this is a better tank mythic compared to Turbo Chemtank.
Boots

All Boots

Ionian Boots of Lucidity- Possibly one of the best boots on Volibear because of its cheap cost and the boots to AH. I would recommend this in 90% of your games. If you are very far behind then possibly go with something else

Mercury's Treads- Build these into a very AP heavy team or into a team with lots of CC.

Plated Steelcaps- Build these into a very AD heavy team.

Boots of Swiftness- Still very good boots but there are better options.

Sorcerer's Shoes- Only build these if you are going AP but even then there are still better options.

Berserker's Greaves- Only build these if you are going crit but even then there are better options.
Good Bruiser items

Good Items to Build

Titanic Hydra- Better of the two because it gives a lot of health and scales well with all the health that is being built.

Ravenous Hydra- It will give you more than double the AD. Comes with Omnivamp healing. As well as a cleave that will proc on just about anything Volibear does.

Black Cleaver- Gives AD, Health, and AH. Not only that but it also gives Volibear armour reduction which scales the more he beats on somebody. It will also give move speed based on the armor reduction

Sterak's Gage- As stated with Goredrinker, Volibear is a very dive heavy champion. Sterak's Gage will help you survive because of the shield that scales off of max health! It will also heal a small portion of damage taken or done over six seconds, but that is minor compared to the other things it gives!

Blade of the Ruined King- Gives AD, AS, and healing, in the form of Life Steal. In addition to that if he is able to attack a champion three times he will steal, meaning he gets 25% of that champion's move speed for 2 seconds. If that gets activated then he will be able to stay on top of them and deal so much more damage to them.

Situational Items to Build

Chempunk Chainsword- A great item to build for anti healing, Build this when you are able to attack the opponent.

Silvermere Dawn- An amazing item if the other team is using all their CC on you. It also will give you some Magic resist as well!

Serpent's Fang- A great item to build into a team that has a lot of shielding. Not necessarily because they got mountain soul either!
Good Resistance Items

Good Items to Build

Dead Man's Plate- Wonderful item that will give a good chunk of health and armor. On top of that it gives a boost to his MS as well as growing MS for moving around! It also builds out of an egg :D

Force of Nature- Another egg-cellent item. It gives a good chunk of health and magic resistance. Just like DMP it gives a small boost to move speed but instead of getting MS by moving around this one gives magic resistance and MS for as long as you are getting hit! I have also been told it is great for DOTs.

Randuin's Omen- This is a great item especially for dive heavy Volibear. Its active causes anybody around him to become slow and it will also reduce their crit damage by 20% and all AD by 10%. It will also just reduce incoming damage based on Volibear's max health.

Frozen Heart- Gives mana instead of health. It is a better item than Randuin's Omen if the other team has more auto attacking champions rather than crit champions. It also reduces damage based on max health. From the minimal testing it also stacks!

Death's Dance- This is a great item for if you are doing very well and are ahead. It will make you take 35% of the damage you take over the course of 3 seconds rather than at once. If you get a kill/assist then you just take none of that DOT damage and will even get healed 10% of his max hp.

Spirit Visage- Health, Magic Resist, AH, and will increase any and all healing and shielding by 25% assuming grievous wounds aren't in play.

Wit's End- AD, AS, and Magic Resist. It will also give MS if you are attacking them!

Gargoyle Stoneplate- An amazing, and rather broken on anybody who is building health. This item is a team fight button. It gives one of the highest armor states and gives the highest magic resist state, both at 60! Best part? Ya know all that health you have been, hopefully, building? Congratulations! That has become a shield that lasts for over 2 seconds!

Situational Items to Build

Thornmail- A good anti healing item that is even better if they are attacking you a lot.
Good AP Items

Good Items to Build

Cosmic Drive- A great item that gets better once you are able to get the 160 AP for its item passive. It will give more MS and AH. A very very good item on just about any AP champion.

Nashor's Tooth- A very good, though very overrated, item. It will help get your passive stacking and gives a good chunk of AP as well.

Lich Bane- A very good item, mostly because of the sheen but it also gives move speed!

Situational Items to Build

Rabadon's Deathcap- This is a very strong item and would always be good to be built because it give 120 AP and then boost your ap by an additional 35%.

Void Staff- This is another very strong item however it is best built into a very tanky team that will be building MR.

Zhonya's Hourglass- This item is super busted but a lot of people use it as a crutch. It is good if you are getting focused but don't build it every game.

Banshee's Veil- This is very busted item sense it gives more AP than hourglass and will negate the first CC hit on you. It also has some pretty good MR.

Morellonomicon- The only worth while antihealing item to build on an AP champion.
Good Assassin Items

Good Items to Build

Youmuu's Ghostblade- A great item to build because it gives you MS.

The Collector- A great item to build because of the execute it gives on top of the small amount of bonus gold you will be getting.

Situational Items to Build

Serpent's Fang- A great item to build against a team with a lot of shields.

Edge of Night- A great item to build to help deal with CC. It will also give you a small boost to health.

Death's Dance- A great amrour item which will heal you and make you take damage over a short time rather than at once. On top of that if you get a kill or an assist the DOT is removed.

Maw of Malmortius- A great MR item that will help with dealing with high damaging AP champions as it gives a shield.

Chempunk Chainsword- The best antihealing for Assassin Volibear.
Good Crit Items

Good Items to Build

Phantom Dancer- This is a great item to build because it gives move speed as well as ghosts which makes it so you won't get blocked by winions.

Stormrazor- Will slow enemies making it easier to kill them.

Infinity Edge- A great Item to get once you hit 60% crit.

The Collector- Comes with an execute as well as bonus gold.

Essence Reaver- A great item that comes with sheen and will regen mana.

Situational Items to Build

Navori Flickerblade- A very expensive item that could be very worth while. But, because of its cost it is rather hard to know where it should be built.

Mercurial Scimitar- A great item into a heavy CC comp.

Lord Dominik's Regards- A great item to build into tanky/armour building team.

Mortal Reminder- The Crit anti healer.
Recommended Build Combinations

Would NOT recommend because although Volibear has very high scaling abilities you are left very squishy if you are unable to immediately get some Health. I am working on fixing this issue but the fastest way to fix this problem is to change mythics to something with a bit more health. However, you are then missing out on a lot of noticeable stats that Trinity Force gives.

If you plan on going Trinity Force your first back you should be aiming for a Sheen, it will help you do a massive amount of increased damage and is great for dueling. Next you can either go for Hearthbound Axe, if things are going pretty well in lane and you want to put out some more damage, or Kindlegem, if things have been getting pretty close and you are looking for some beef. Then build the other one. Don't forget to build some Boots in there at some point!

Next up is Titanic Hydra and although I typically will get a Tiamat first, I feel like going for a Giant's Belt is a much better option. Now you should be getting the other one. Either shortly after you finish your Titanic Hydra or before, you should finish your boots, I would recommend Ionian Boots of Lucidity.

This is where the build becomes very, VERY, Situational. Odds are your team is going to need somebody to be a tank and if this is the case Thornmail and Dead Man's Plate are very good armour options. If you need some magic resistance then Spirit Visage and Force of Nature are great options. You truthfully won't need to build much more damage because of how well Volibear's abilities scale. However, if laning phase went very well and you have quite a few kills with very few deaths a Death's Dance or Wit's End will make sure you are still chunking people for a lot of their health.

Now, let's say that building resistances isn't as necessary. Black Cleaver is an amazing item as it give armour penetration as well as move speed! There is Sterak's Gage as well, it will give you quite a bit of beef as well as a shield once your health gets low enough. Don't forget to build some resistances though!

Would recommend this version of Volibear because he is nearly impossible to build against. His base stats are fairly high so by building AP and leveling your abilities normally, it becomes MUCH harder to build against. Plus, Volibear doesn't need very many items to do a lot of damage!

Riftmaker is going to be your mythic item. Building Leeching Leer first is going to be great due to the fact that you now have more health than Trinity Force, you will be getting a small boost to your AP damage, and healing in the form of Omnivamp. Obviously your next item will be Blasting Wand. DON'T FORGET YOUR Boots AT SOME POINT DURING THE BUILDING OF Riftmaker!

Next you should be looking at building a Recurve Bow for Nashor's Tooth. I typically will go for the most expensive to least when it comes to building items, most of the time unless I know what I am doing for the item. Finish building your Nashor's Tooth and your tier two boots, Ionian Boots of Lucidity are always a great pick!

What AP item should you build next? Well that is the best part! With Riftmaker causing true damage and his abilities scaling so well, you won't need any more damage! So, what should you build next? Resistances and become UNKILLABLE. Thornmail and Spirit Visage are always good ones to build.

Now although there are plenty of options to build as your final item, Rabadon's Deathcap will be a great item to pick up for some unexpected bonus damage.

World recommend tank Volibear because his base stats are very high and it is very funny to watch an enemy team slowly whittle you down. Don't get me wrong, you aren't unkillable but still is pretty nice to not have to worry too much about dying.

Now your options are pretty open all things considered. Although Turbo Chemtank has gotten pretty badly nerfed...thanks Hecarim...it is still a very good option! On your first back you should be getting Bami's Cinder. After that you should get whatever will counter what your lane opponent is building Cloth Armor for AD and Null-Magic Mantle for AP.

For Boots, I would really recommend getting Mercury's Treads. This is because they give tenacity and it is such a great thing to have.
