Avoid his Q's edge and you will be fine. Try to move all the time right left up and down good movement is important vs Aatrox baiting his Q. Executioner rush is good vs Aatrox also after Trinity/DD/Mortal Reminder you should win every fight if you won't take his every spell at face.
Akali
After rework it's tough opponent. Try to all in her on early lvls, especially lvl 1-5. Try to fight her when she got W on cd. It may sounds stupid but try to fight her in her minions, when she is hiding at her shroud so you won't lose your attack speed from passive. Try to block her empowered AA on your E, you can stop her E with ur E. If she does second E recast jump close to ur turret so she will get turret hit.
Akshan
MS important in this matchup so rush MS. If he tries to E away recast ur E or step ahead on him to stop his E. Try to fight him when hes in the middle of the lane not close to the walls. Hide behind turret to not get his R dmg.
Ambessa
SHe will roll head on her keyboard and you cant do much about it. Gotta move and predict her spells shortly before she will start casting them. Try to sidestep R. Antiheal + serpant fang helpful vs her. If she misses her combo and dashes close to you its ur sign to fight her.
Aurora
Cant do much vs her. You can try lvl 1 bush strat to cheese her and then getting lvl 2 faster and jumpin on her tryin to early kill her. Besides that you need jngler to punish her. Fast mercs/swiftis rush + phage bcs you need early ms to ever try to catch her. The biggest chance to kill her when she will come under your turret as she often will push you, then try to all in her. The best safe way is to d shield, mercs + resolve.
Camille
Carefully on early bcs Camille wins on early vs Jax. Try to proc her passive then you can go in. If she miss her E 90% of times she is dead. Your E blocks her Q and will not active her passive shield if she autoattack you remember about it. Also you can stop her E with your E but only on her second cast. Try to move a lot to predict her W to not let her heal. Boots/Trinity/Antiheal/DD
Cassiopeia
Try to dodge her Q to not let her bonus ms and not get kited. If she used W you got fewish secs to go in. Remember that you cant use Q or Flash while stepping on her W. D shield helpful vs her posion ticks. Mercs rush. Be careful at 6 for her R + Flash combo, try to move up to dodge her stun and then back to fight her.
Cho'Gath
Try to all in him at level 1 with E. Use Counter Strike when he uses his E and be careful when you are on low hp cuz he can flash R and get you down easily. Move a lot to predict his Q knockup and slow. You can get BC if he stack a lot of armor. Bork can help you out in this matchup as well.
Darius
If you do 1 mistake especially in early he will just pop ghost and kill you. Try to get out of his Q or get close to him enough to deny heal. You need to be prepared with your E when you are sticking closely to Darius. He got AA range advantage (175 basically + 25 bonus from W) when you got only 125. Also don't try to fight him when he got 5 stacks on you from Hemorrhage. D shield helpful in this matchup to regen back his passive dmg.
Dr. Mundo
First try to break his passive shield with ur E, while its on cd then you can try to fight him. Also try to step on his blob from passive before him to prevent getting heal back for him. If you don't have your E up don't fight with him cuz his E (bonus AD from missing health) makes his AAs dangerous for you especially in early state of the game. Early Executioner to reduce his huge healing from R and passive. Move a lot with sidesteps to block his Q/E throw. Bork can help you out in this matchup as well.
Fiora
If the vital appear in a bad spot for you walk out of her vision so the vital will reset in different spot. Be careful when using your E since her W may stun you and its debuffing your AS for 50%. The best option for you is to keep your E for the maximum duration as most Fioras will try to predict your Counter Strike. Also make a side step or walk behind her to avoid her riposte and stun her. If you are fighting with her and she R's you just stick to wall and don't move so she won't be able to proc her 4th vital. Remember about getting healing reduction since she heals a lot.
Galio
Early Mercs, try to block his empowered AA from passive. When you jump on him and stun him run ahead of him so he won't be able to use his E. Try to fight him after he used his W.
Gangplank
Hard matchup for Jax and annyoing to play against him, bully lane and can kite you easily. Get fast tabi. Your E blocks his Q remember about it, when you jump on him first the most important thing to do is destroy his barrel not AA on him. If he used W it's ur time to go in and keep ur E for maximum length. Also keep and eye on his barrel stacks, if he runs out of barrels you can jump on him. Call your jngler for help since its tough matchup and nothing to do if GP isn't really bad.
Garen
Try to dodge his Q by your E and you will be fine. If he will try to E you walk or jump away but if you see that you will win trade even on his E take this trade. YOu got window to go in if he uses his W. Try as much as you can to kill him before lvl 6, later on will be harder.
Gnar
Try to bait his jump then all in him. Can rush boots in this matchp. Get Sheen on early to get potential kill on him. Also when you're fighting him stay on his left or right side or behind him never ahead of him so he won't get second jump from his E on you. Maxing second E also will help you a lot since most of his dmg comes from AA especially at mini gnar. Use ur E to block his third AA stack from W passive. Movement when fightin with him when hes on Mega Gnar important to dodge his W/Q.
Gragas
Get early Mercs Treds to reduce some of his E CC. Dodge his W AA with ur E. If he will waste his E on minions you can small window to all in him. Mos of the time you can't do much here so try to do something on the diff part of the map or keep him on lane if ur team is winning.
Graves
Can rush boots as 1 item. Try to all in him when he used his W since it got long CD. Try to keep ur Q for his E. Can get antiheal later on.
Gwen
Save ur Q for her E. Try to get her on early lvls with ur E after she E. Watch out her passive stacks, if she got 4 stacks she will deal true dmg on center of her Q so try to move left/right when shes about to Q you. Anitheal helpful vs her.
Heimerdinger
Annyoing to play against, try to destory his mini turrets regulary and jump in when he uses his E. Early doran shield and Mercs will be helpful vs his poke and Sheen for kill potential. Use E for his turret dmg.
Illaoi
Try to dodge her E in this match up. If you jump on her make insta side step cuz most of Illaois do insta E and if she misses her E you can try to kill her then. If she ults and you will know that you won't be able to finish her with her heals just jump away, wait for end of her R and then try to go in. Get Executioner's Calling to reduce Illaoi heals. In short abomination of a champion, even if shes so bad cant really do much currently as Jax vs her.
Irelia
Use your E carefully cuz she will dance with minions dodging your stun. Your E don't block her Q anymore like it did on old Irelia Q, remember about it. She can outplay you and win if you fight her with minion wave so she can jump on them, also if shes keep an eye on her passive if she's fully stacked try to wait out her passive. Fast Tabi. Executioner for anitheal since she heals a lot. Boots//Trinity/Mortal/DD
Jarvan IV
Be careful for his all in, it's the only way he can get you, hitting you with his every spell. Get fast boots and Sheen for early kill potential. Try to E his empowered AA from passive. Keep ur Q for this E+Q combo when he tries to run away with that.
Jayce
Difficult match up for Jax, especially for not experienced players. Even if you will make Q on him he will just E you so try to jump when his E it's on CD. Get Doran shield, Tabi, ask your jungler for help. Don't try to get every minion if it will cost you getting huge poke from Jayce, 1 cs for - 50% hp - not worth. Also there is 1 thing when its not good Jayce its not that hard match up and its playable but if its good Jayce its nightmare for Jax. Try to cheese him on lvl 1 from third bush with E.
K'Sante
Try to dodge his empowered Q that knocks you back. He got low cds on his Q so try to move a lot to dodge it. Don't stay near walls bcs he will try to R you. If hes about to R you, wait with ur E for his ,,damage" form to tank some dodge on your E. Some lifesteal would be helpful vs him.
Karma
Get D shield for her poke. ALl in her when her E is CD. Try to move a lot to dodge her Q. You can try to early cheese her from third bush with E. Anitheal + serpant fang later on would be useful vs her.
Karthus
Cheese him lvl 1. Also jump on him and try to dodge as many Qs as possible while fighting with him bcs if you will dodge his Q he will run of out of mana really fast and his E isnt dealing much dmg on early anyway. Once hes low with mana it's free kill for you. Use E while he R. If you see hes going back follow him to prevent him from R, if he does it stun him to stop his R.
Katarina
Be careful with ur E, she can easily dodge it by her E/W. If you use ur E bad she can kills you really easily even on lvl 2. Try to keep ur E for her R also try to keep ur Q after she E away to follow her. If she throws Q on you try to stay away from dagger on ground bcs prob she will E to it and you will take poke for free from her passive.
Kayle
Try to get her at early lvls. After she gets items will be hard cuz of her 3 sec immortality. If she ults dont use Q or W wait until her R ends and then try to all in her or just jump away when she ults and return when it ends. Your E blocks her E. Get MS items to keep up with her. If Kayle isnt 20 iq she will never die to Jax and later on she just outscales you.
Kayn
Try to dodge his W after hes after form upgrade. If he R you, try to not stay near walls to not let him make insta E into wall. Executioner especially if he goes for Red Kayn.
Kennen
Get Doran shield and Mercury. Also take tenacity in runes. If you will try to jump on him he will E away from you over and over again. He will poke you all the time so the most optimum is to all in him. Get early sheen for kill potential Call your jungler for help. Try to time ur R right before his R.
Kled
Try to dismount him and then her easier to kill him. Your E blocks his W completely. You need to look at his courage since he will get large amount of hp from mount so fight and dive him wisely! Bork can help vs him. Move a lot to dodge his Q.
Lee Sin
Take resists in runes for his E max dmg. Try to save ur Q after he uses his W. If he lands Q on you dont press insta E while hes in middle air bcs he can cancel it by making W to minion and then he will try to fight you.
Lillia
Rush Mercs + SHeen. Try to cheese her lvl 1. Get some her hp by short trades then all in her. Press R a bit earlier before ur getting sleep. Also get QSS later for her sleep from R.
Lissandra
You can get Doran shield for afk farm. Tenacity in runes and Mercury. Most of the time if you jump on her she will just W you and press E to run away. Since her E got 8 sec longer CD than your E, you can try to all in her when she will waste her E.
Malphite
Try to get him at early levels. Early D Shield can help you. Get Mercs here. Try to block his W on ur E. If there is comet coming at you, you can Q to minion to not get dmg. If he uses his E/Q on minion you can go in (Wait out a bit his bonus MS)
Maokai
Try to kill him on first few levels. Wait with ur Q for his Q. Mercs needed. Healing reduction recommended vs Maokai.
Mordekaiser
Try to make short trades. Good movement is kinda important vs Mordekaiser to dodge his E/Q and use your E for his autos so he won't proc his passive. If he proc his passive try to not fight with him at all unless you see that you will win trade anyway. You can get antiheal later for his Riftmaker and seprant fang.
Nasus
After getting buffed he became so strong nowadays. Try to all in him at lvl 1, you need to punish him all the time for most of creeps he wants to stack. Time works in favor for Nasus so try to end game ASAP. You won't be able to kill him when he will get enough stacks to kill you. QSS is helpful to remove his AS and MS slow from W. Your E blocks his Q. Mortal Reminder useful vs Nasus. Try to bait out his R and then all in him will be easier.
Neeko
Annyoing opponent. Get Doran Shield to and Mercury for laning. Early sheen for fighting Neeko and kill potential. Try to block her third AA from her W passive to not get bonus dmg.
Olaf
Try to predict and make a side ste for his Q, then fight him. Get antiheal. Dont try to recast ur E while hes on R, just keep ur E for whole duration. Olaf is the strongest while on low hp so be carefull when ur tryin to fight him when ur on low hp as well.
Ornn
Keep your Counter Strike for his empowered auto attack. After he use his dash it's your move to deal some dmg or even kill him, Also don't stay near walls and his Q rock to not get knocked up from his E and taking dmg for free. Try to ward + Q to minion to dodge his second R cast or to minion. If hes about to E stun him in middle air so you can catch him instead of insta stunning him.
Pantheon
Get D shield bcs prob he will sit under your turret poking you with Q. You can try to get some his HP at lvl 1 its good chance for you to win trade. Try to go ahead of him when hes making E to deal dmg to him. Try to press E right before hes in middle air with this W with 5 stacks to dodge all his W extra auto attacks.
Poppy
Try to all in her at 1 lvl with your E. Don't get close to walls or other structures cuz she can easy stun you up with her E. Be careful with your Q because her W deny your jump. Later on you should win 1 vs 1 vs her. Remember that your E blocks her empowered autoattack from passive. You can cancel her R cast with ur E.
Qiyana
Try to all in her lvl 1. Stack armor, don't stay near walls while fighting with her. Be careful cuz even if she is behind she still got huge burst. If she R you spam asap Q to her or ward or minion or w/e so high chance you will get out before it stuns you. Deathdance good item vs her to not get 1shoted.
Quinn
He counters you at every single way if you will jump on her she will just E or blind you. Ask jungler for help, get Doran shield and boots rush. Also you can try to help your laning phase a bit by chasing her from third bush with your E at 1 lvl. Later you will outscale her.
Renekton
Try to all in him at 1 lvl with you E, also your E blocks his W so remember about it. Be careful at his 6, he can easily 1 shot you with full fury from his R. Always wait with your Q for his E.
Rengar
Try to push fast lane don't let him control bushes cuz he will outdamage you so hard. His W is denying your stun and healing him back from all your dmg you dealt to him. Fast rush tabi and and Sheen for kill potential. Your E block his Q. Anitheal really good vs him. Put wards in bushes to counter him. Get Deathdance to mitigate his huge dmg.
Riven
If it's good Riven it's hard to do something in lane cuz she will always wait for her spells and won't let you take her. Every trade she is just using W and insta E to retreat slowly taking down your hp. You can't hesitate vs Riven, you need to find gap between her W and E CD when she will come close to last hit minion. If you notice opportunity like this you need to all in her, that's how you are winning vs Riven. Try to E her Q. Anitheal needed after she gets healing item.
Rumble
Annyoing with his insane high built-in dmg Q, stack some attack speed at minions at 1 level then try to all in him with E. Pay attetntion at his passive if he will overheat try to fight him then, he won't be able to deal you dmg. He will harass you all the time with his spells so get Doran shield and Sheen in lane. Get some ms item to keep up with his slows and W ms.
Ryze
Most of the time if you jump on him, he will just W you QEQ and run away. Don't stay close to minions so you won't get affected by his E+Q. Early is his weakness. Punish it jumping at his head everytime you can. Mercury must be in this match up + Doran Shield vs Ryze. Try to keep E for his R if its possible to not let him escape with R later. Try to jump on him while his PR is on CD and Q runes ms.
Sett
Try to dodge his middle dmg of his W by moving left or right or behind him to not get tons of true dmg. Be careful for his W + Flash combo when ur low hp. YOu can also Ward + Q his W. Your E blocks his Q. Move a lot to dodge his E. When fighting with him try to be on even with him, dont let him be above you bcs then he will R you away into his turret. You can get antiheal cuz of his insane base hp regen and itemization.
Shen
Try to fight him at level 1 with your E. Rush Tiamat and try to keep him under turret to not let him R for free. Remember that his W blocks your auto attacks even your W. Be prepared with your E when he will be in air to taunt you try to press E and you will minimize all his dmg. Try to not let him make his spirit blade pass through you to not get slowed and getting extra dmg and giving him AS bonus from Q. If hes moving back follow him to not let him R but look on ur teammates if its worth and they will win even after Shen R let him tp and then you get plates. If you dnt want to risk you can play safe on lane and you will outscale him later.
Singed
Fight him when his passive is on CD so he won't escape you. Always keep your Q, wait if he will E you than you are making Q, never opposite way. Be aware to not chase him all of the time cuz sometimes it's just not worth and you will lose minions under turret. Get Doran Shield to regen back his poison. Get ms items to match his ms like FoN, Mortla Reminder. Don't TP while he got vision on you bcs his W will stop your TP.
Sion
Don't forget about his passive cuz he can still get you down after dying but your E counter his passive very well. Avoid coming close to bushes because he will try to make ,,invisible'' Q at you. At 1 lvl try to all in him. Left or Right or jump behind him when hes making Q. Destory his W before he can recast it to not get free dmg. When fighting with him try to stay above him to not let him R and block it in case he tries to do it.
Swain
Dodge his E and you will be fine. Be careful at lvl 6, he got his powerspike and can burst you down. Early buy Executioner's Calling will be useful vs Swain. Try to jump on him if he will burn from his spells. Mercury recommended.
Sylas
Annyoing with those heals, Early Sheen and Executioner's vs Sylas. Remember about his W healing increased by 50% against targets below 40% health so be careful diving him or trying to kill when you got low hp. Try to block his empowered autos from passive with ur E. Make sidestep after he uses E away to dodge his E2 unless you know you will win so then ,,catch" it to force his flash or kill him.
Tahm Kench
Tough opponent, he will outdamage you at early. After 2/3 items you should win skirmishes. You can stop his W channeling with ur E. Fight with him inside ur minions to not let him Q you. Try to avoid fighting when he got 2 stacks on you cuz Devour deals huge dmg.
Teemo
Doran shield and Mercury in this match up very helpful. If he will use his blind then its your time to jump on him and chance to kill him. Remember that his blind deny dmg from your W. Dont try to chase him at all cuz he will try to bait you at his shrooms. Wait untill he will waste his blind then you can try to all in him and kill thats how you should lane against Teemo. Let minions go first and wait a bit so they eat mushroom and you won't get hit by it. Get MS items to match his.
Trundle
Try to block his Q with your E. Remember that his ult removes some of your resists and drains your health over time so try to R after his R. Executioner's Calling can be useful vs his huge healing from every source. Keep ur Q for his E.
Tryndamere
Rush Tabi in this match up also Deathdance/Randuin's Omen/Frozen Heart is strong item vs Tryndamere. Be careful at 1 lvl cuz of his crits, remember that your E got same CD than his E at 1 lvl. Always keep your Q after he will try to make AA+E away from you. Be careful when diving him cuz of his R making him immortal for 5 sec. Always try to bait his R and then go in. Ignite vs Trynda can help. Keep an eye for his Fury if hes full try to not fight him at all. Try to keep ur E for his R bcs then he deals the most dmg when on low hp.
Urgot
Counter Strike blocks all dmg from his W. Tabi rush. Be careful on early on his high base dmg and at his ultimate if you will have below 25% hp you will be executed immediately. You can get QSS to remove his R. Let him push first lvls.
Vayne
The best counter at Jax its just impossible to kill her 1v1 when she gets 3 items unless the player on her is really, really bad. My personal ban.
Viego
Outrange you with his 200 range when you have only 125. When he uses his Q or dash try to all in him. Try to move a lot in this matchup. Tabi and executioner are good items vs Viego. Try to keep ur Q for his R when he uses it to escape.
Viktor
Now more like midlaner than top, Get Doran shield/Sheen+ Mercury. Counter Strike blocks his AA from Q keep that in mind.
Vladimir
Tough opponent for Jax. Vlad got decent sustain and can easily harass you. You have to bait his pool since his W got longer CD than your E otherwise he will just dodge your stun with it. When he will waste his pool then try to all in him it's your chance to get him. Stay behind minions so his E can't hit you also try to avoid getting hit by his upgraded Q. Executioner's helps a lot vs Vlad. Get MS items to match his ms. Watch out his upgraded Q from passive. Try to cheese him lv 1
Volibear
Be careful when he R then might be hard to kill him cuz he's on steroids when uses R. Your Counter Strike blocks his Q and W. Antiheal needed. Try to not stay in the center of his R to not get extra dmg. You can get D Shield for his passvie proc for often healing. Try to wait out his E shield and then go in. Try to wait out his wound from W.
Warwick
Be careful fighting him on low hp cuz he heals a lot, antiheal needed asap. Try to block his Q with ur E. Same try to predict his R with ur E to block his whole dmg and stop his R after getting stunned. Try to not fight him while hes under his E. Get magic resists in runes vs him.
Wukong
Try to get him at 1 lvl with Counter Strike. Block his Q with your E. Fast Tabi will help a lot. Be careful at his E bcs his E cancel ur autoattack. If he uses his W then you got short window to go in.
Yasuo
Tabi rush against him. At 6 lvl stack AS and try to all in him, you should be able to get him. Be careful with yout E a bit cuz he can bait it riding across the minions and dodge stun quite easily. Your E block his Q and Q2 dmg. Active his shield before fighting with him. Get MS item to match his MS.
Yone
Tabi + Executioner, remember that he deals hybrid dmg so some magic resists are also fine vs Yone. Try to dodge his empowered Q and R if you do it then you should kill him without bigger problems. Ur E blocks his Q dmg. Try to dodge his W by running into him or in diff direction than his W to not give him shield. All in him when his E is on CD. If he tries to fight you with E you can start fighting him and run into his E direction so when he's about to return he will kill himself.
Yorick
Your E blocks his Q and autoattacks from his ghouls. Try to dodge his E so you won't get all his army ghouls at your face. Ignite/Executioner's can be useful vs Yorick Q/Grasp. Try to kill Maiden first when he summons it then swap target at him. Some magic resists are fine vs Yorick.
Zac
Step on his blobs that he spawns to not let him heal for free. Get antiheal. Try to get his passive down then for the second try hes easier to kill for 5 min. You can stop his E with ur E. You can cheese him lv 1. Try to keep ur Q for his E.
Ivern
Shield, Slow, Knock up, Ardent + other supp items.

Jax is a one of the best duelist in the game thanks to his kit. Jax is a good pick into melee champions especially vs champions that base a lot on auto attacking for example Tryndamere, Camille, Irelia etc. thanks to his E that allows Jax to dodge all incoming auto attacks. Jax is a great champion to carry games with that scales really good into late game but requires matchup knowledge cuz he starts the game off kind weak. Knowing match ups and what to do at the right time as Jax is the key to maximize his potential.
Good and weak points
PROS
+ Almost undefeated at side lane after few items + Hybrid damage + Immunity to all incoming auto attacks for 2 seconds and 25% less damage from AoE damage. + Great against heavy auto attackers like Tryndamere, Camille etc. + Built-in jump, armor and magic resists, bonus AS and AA range + 1v9 potential
CONS
- Weak outpush under enemy pressure - Doesn't do well on lane vs hard bully lane champions like Jayce etc. - Falls off if behind - Weak early game - Not that easy to master - Kinda expensive items
Tips & Important informations
★ Before fighting with someone try to get some stacks from your passive to get bonus attack speed
★ Jax W gives him bonus 50 range and resets Jax basic attack timer. Also W can be used while using Q to increase damage from jump.
★ You can jump with your Q to many things including champions, minions, wards, jungle plants and champion summoned units for example Teemo shrooms, Jarvan flag, Thresh lantern.
★ Jax E will also dodge abilities that can trigger on-hit effects for example Gangplank Q, Ezreal Q, Renekton W, Twisted Fate W etc. which will count towards Counter Strike increased damage.
★ Thanks to his R passive every third auto attack Jax will deal bonus magic damage
