Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
he's extremely easy to lane against as long as you stay out of his W, you naturally outdamage him, except for level 1 and 2. Play safe until level 3. After that, start going nonstop agro. Play around his support. Remember that you're not invincible however much you counter them, play smart when choosing yoru windows of aggresion.
Sona
Super Squishy, after you battle the beginning onslot of poke, it'll be a cake lane cause how easily if is to chunk her.
Lucian
Lucian is an extremely easy lane. You natrually out DPS him if you have 2 axes spinning, hold your E until he E's. abuse him towards mid lane phase (level 3-7), early with his full combo will hurt a lot. Save your E for his ult. His full culling on you will do more than you can hope to do to him.
Sivir
She has waveclear and free poke with her w and q. shoving into her is going to be a hard task. But in a straight up 1v1 you won't lose to her even if you are slightly behind. This matchup is more based on wether or not the sivir steps up to far or not. as well as the supports.
Kog'Maw
ABUSE HIM EARLY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. kog'maw is one of those signature hyper carries even with his current nerfs. The best way is to shut him down hard. Notify your support that your going balls deep and then proceed to do so. even if you tank a Blitz hook, unless your support is brain dead, you will still win trades early. late game, just try to find a 1v1 scenario where you land your ult as initiation.
Alistar
This is much more of a skill matchup than anything. If you can predict his W Q combo, then this lane is basically a 1v2, if the alistair is good and biats out your E, then you're screwed. If you play with a low enough of a ping, you can actually play reactively to the Alistair headbutt. Punish Level 1 because he needs 2 abilities to do anything.
Miss Fortune
She has no direct for of CC unless you consider exhaust one. If she steps up to far, then abuse that. She's most effective 1-6. Play accordingly based on her adc.
Bard
One of the more advanced matchups. Against a bard, watch for his level 1 and 2 power spikes. He's goign to try to cheese you early, so play safe. It's not a bad idea when you decide to commit full to straight up flash his Q to initiate, since they usualy run ignite. After his Q is down, punish as much as you want. You can also E people out of his tunnel if you can react fast enough.
Corki
Corki is one of the more intersting matchups. He's currently played in the midlane rather often. Problems against this guy is that he has a really high amount of burst, as well as has decent poke. When he has package get out of the way. Bait out his Q, because that's his primary damage.
Kalista
Just not good right now. Advise to build High amounts of attack-speed/crit against her. Since you will naturally out damage her. She acts like a ticking time bomb, so engage on her as much as possible until she eventually just gets out scaled.
Soraka
Very passive lane, focus her when in fights. Attempt to burst her down before she can exhaust/kill you. Don't go for trades due to her innate sustain. lacks CC so after exhaust burned go in hard.
Annie
She has a lot of damage post-6 so watch out. This is a finicky lane because she has a really high amount of burst, so she sets up her adc really well. Try to go agro level 1-2 to get dominance in lane. Get early magic resist.
Brand
Brand has a lot of offensive power, as long as you dodge his stun. You won't have a problem. They key to dealing with brand is to constantly go in on him. He's a champion very reliant on his cooldowns so without them, he's really useless.
Tahm Kench
He's an extremely tanky so he can actually take all the poke you want on him. he also has a lot of CC and is a major **** block. Key to outplaying him is to dodge perpendicular to his tongue. predict his movements
Ezreal
Very slippery, has a lot of poke. His 6 > your 6. Hard to burst if going iceborn build. Abuse his E CD and play around his support
Jinx
Extremely easy match up because she take forever to scale. Have to end the game early. She will out DPS you at 4 items +
Braum
Super hard lane if he plays it correctly. Watch out for his ultimate stun combo. He has alot of engage (hopping to a minion then Q to you) so just play super safe. Best bet is to stand aside him from when he tries to shield. Request for heavy ganks or have a Morgana support.
Caitlyn
Early game she's a hard matchup, but around level 1, and 4-8 you're stronger. then after 3+ items, she's stronger than you. Abuse this small window. To get a lead. a good way is to run up to fake an all in, so to bait her E. Then capitalize, end games around midgame so she can't scale.
Janna
****block Champion. make's enemy ADC have as much onhit damage as you plus more health. Matchup is based on how well you can captilize oh her CD's or how far enemy ADC over extends. You support has to either be hard initiate, or be a soraka/sona/some other sustain.
Draven
A flat out skill Matchup. just play to enemy draven's windows. Once one draven gets a lead, it's GG. if you really were in an intense 1v1 you cna actually flash to catch enemy draven's axe to put him in a dis advantage. Use E to displace him from Axe.
Graves
if he gets close your screwed. Attempt to play this lane early. He does alot of damage and is good at getting up close to your face. Let him shove in on you, then freeze the wave.
Jhin
This guy is a CC machine, and plays like a wimp. He sits back and plays a safe lane usually. let him shove with his Q then freeze the wave. Call jungler to come down and see if you can capitalize. Build Crit to parallel his damage late game.
Karma
Immense poke with a large shield and root. She's probably one of the hardest support matchups for draven. Only way to beat her is to play to opposite side of the lane to her. play around her CD's. When she uses her W, use your E W and run TF out unless you can kill enemy AD or her. Kill trading is always worth with draven early.
Leona
SKill Matchup for Draven. Whether or not draven can press E when she E's. Don't do it to preemptively because there's a windup animation that can't be canceled. Cancel the dash. Patience is everything.
Lulu
Lulu is an interesting matchup. Extremely uncommon as well as having a bucket load of CC. She's a very annoying champion to play against. Play around her Q CD. When it's down, signal to go in and try to punish. She either has to wismy you, or her AD. late game, just play around your support because they're usually stronger/better.
Lux
Easy Lane if you can dodge skillshots. If you can't, then you're in big trouble. Stay behind the minion wave and watch for her q. try faking an all in and baiting out her Q, then going in for real. She has no real escape.
Malphite
Hate this champion. Super tanky, inate lane sustain, point and click Attackspeed slow and movespeed slow. As well as an AOE knockup and gets stronger the tankier he gets. only chance is to captilize early game pre-6. You have to do something early. Be ready to flash his ult when he does.
Malzahar
He's an extremely annyoing lane to play against. His minions proliferate more than rabbits do and they hurt. Play around his minion CD, because without it he's useless. His ultimate is also super annoying. Only way of dealing with it is to predict E or build and early QSS.
Miss Fortune
One of the Only ADC's that can deal with you earlygame, as well as late. She has a lot of poke damage via her Q and E and with lane dominant supports being meta, she's super annoying to play against. Punish her post-6 because you are stronger.
Morgana
If you can dodge skill shots, then you can win. If not, same concept as lux. Your in trouble. After 6, if she lands a stray binding on you, 9/10 she will go in on you. However, if you get into a fight and dodge her Q, she's attempt to ult to CC, shes super squishy so if she does, she's dead.
Mordekaiser
Don't let him get close. Control Drag, Free lane
Nami
Semi hard to paly agaisnt because she has a lot of Utility. She's super squishy so if you play correctly, you can easily captilize. Most namies when they land a bubble will instantly ult/exhuast. hold your ult until after the duration of exhaust. Get your support to focus down nami since she is squishy.
Nautilus
This champs is basically Malphite but a bit better to deal with. His hook though BS, is easier to dodge than something point an click. As well as he takes a while before he gets tanky. His ultimate could be problematic, but just abuse him early since he lacks any source of power after level 3-5 and 7-10.
Pantheon
Save your E for his W, good panths will wait, so you will do this more reactive than predicatively. As soon as he W's most panth's will press E, that's when you run. His passive blocks your axe as well.
Poppy
Use your E to interrupt her E, shes going to exponetailly get tankier all while doing more and more damage because of percent health damage on her Q. Play agro against her because she needs a wall to be useful. She can knock you out of your Axe catching with her ult and her E. Play accordingly to her ADC.
Sion
watch for his bush cheese, keep lane brush warded so to expect it. He's most dangerous at either long distances (E and R) or short ( Q and W) Keep him in the medium range. Unless enemy ADC has some must cancel abilities (Trist W or MF R) then save your E for his Q. Play agro after he misses his Q.
Taliyah
Interesting lane matchup Not particullarly common, but when against it, use your E to displace her from her Q damage. She has no escapes so find a way to abuse it. Most taliyah's will try to aim their W abit to the side to attempt to either Go all the way in or predict it. Her E doens't affect you, but her ult does. You will notice the indicator on mini-map as well as main screen. Don't be afraid to flash to kill her since she has no mobility
Taric
Rather tanky, a more utility based version of Tahm Kench. Save your E to discrupt his E and try to find Poke onto his ADC. His ultimate is a huge annoyance. Either go ballsdeep and try to kill ADC, or GTFO, no in between.
Thresh
When played correctly, a good thresh will ruin your day easily. His Flay displaces you into a hook, as well as his Ult will **** you up. Plus, a good hook will **** you up too. Best way is to play at a medium range from him. Far enough from his flay, but close enough so that landing a hook is hard. Either go in at level 3, or play passive till you have your Item's
Tristana
A hyperscaling ADC, she either can go all the way in, or she just nope's out. Use your E specifically for that. She will win a trade early due to her E damage. I suggest an Early Vamp Scepter
Urgot
Literally useless, just play around his E.
Varus
Only good at long ranges and is terrible in duels if you get the jump. When dueling, remeber that when he gets his 3rd auto off, he will instantly E Q, be ready to flash. His ult also applies max stacks of Blight to the target hit.
Vayne
Either **** stomp her in lane, or lose the game. Basically rule of thumb for vayne. They way to beat her is to go for trades when she's on the retreat. Let wave shove to you so you can freeze it. Forcing her to come up and CS
Veigar
His cage is super annoying to deal with, combined with his super high burst and his infinite AP, he's a pain in the ***, honestly this is one of the few match-ups that I recommend new tyler1 build.
Vel'Koz
If you can dodge skill shots, then you'll win against it. specifically save your E for it's ult. honestly, if he exhausts early. Don't be afraid to straight up flash his E and continue going in.
Xerath
Stop Jukeing is the best way to play against him. Run in one direction then instantly change direction. He'll miss his Q 90% of the time. Same trick with his E and W. If he does hit you with his E, your pretty dead. Getting up close to him is your main goal since he has a hard time hitting skill shots melee. Few match ups that I recommend the tyler1 build.
Ziggs
He's going to shove you in with the goal of getting first turret, then he's useless. either let it happen and free farm, or go in on him heavily early and make him waste Cd's so you can All in him again. You could also call your jungler to come gank since you know he's going to shove in
Zilean
Zilean is one of the harder supports if he's played correctly against you. He has massive zoning potential with his Q W Q combo. His E is also a giant slow that stops you from all-ining as well as he is probably the largest ****block in the game with his ult. He can deny your passive basically. Play acording to yoru jgler and support if he's good. Otherwise, find windows where he misses his Q W Q combo. taking a singular Q to go in a not a bad trade. Recommend Tyler1 Build
Zyra
Heavy Poke lane, hard to play against if you can't predict her Q. Try baiting out her E and Q since she does the combo usually together. Run up and fake an all in. Other than that, play passive and according to how strong their ADC is, because if your support plays accordingly you can 1v2 her pre-6.
Blitzcrank
Skill matchup, play according to how well he can land his hooks. Do hook baits same as Cait E and other traps. W forward, act like your going in, then run back really fast. If you dodge his hook, he's pretty much useless.
Draven is probably one of the most advanced champions riot has ever created. he requires high APM, adaptability, and a very specific mindset. He has probably one of the most diverse build paths (literally if it has AD or attackspeed on it, he could probably build it viably). His rune setup as well as his masterie's are almost equally as diverse and all have their own perks and setbacks.
Let's Start with his abilities:
Passive Draven's passive is probably the most feast or famine ability in league of legends. Everytime you catch and Axe or you kill a minion you will gain 1 stack of League of Draven. you get 2 stacks if you kill 6 non-champions without dropping an axe. Upon killing an Enemy, you gain50 + (2 x stacks) of bonus gold. When used correctly and snowballed correctly, I've gotten 1300~ gold just off of my passive. Always flash for KS's and kills if your going even in land and such. as well as early kill trading is always worth it for Draven. Capitalize off of this as much as possible and snowball hard. Draven does fall off 6 item +.
: This is basically all of Draven in one ability. One of the hardest abilities to use to it's maximum potential. But when it is, Draven can easily double the enemy ADC's damage in a fight early and mid. When activating the ability, Draven gets a spinning axe stack (can stack up to 2, but hold that thought). Draven's next auto attack will deal Bonus Physcial Damage (30/35/40/45/50(+ 65/75/85/95/105% bonus AD) ). When the auto attack is successfully complete (so if it hits windwall, it won't complete) it will "bounce" and leave a sigil on the ground. Catching the axe also gives 1 stack of the . Sadly, the sigil doensn't scale with movement speed, so when chasing it will sometimes become cumbersome to catch the axe (Kiting is really easy though). You don't need to be entirely on top of the axe, you only need to be slightly within it to catch it.during lane phase, or in general, try keep 2 constantly spinning. Autoing a jungle monster or scuttle is worth it when rotating to defend mid or something along those lines. You need at least 30% CDR if you want infinite axes.
: Draven's W, probably the unsung hero of this champion, super strong with the movespeed increase as well as it allows Draven to get away with building literally zero attackspeed.
: The hardest Draven ability to master. If timed correctly, can cancel a dash or even rest someone to the beginning location they once were. ALWAYS USE YOUR ULT, THEN E. OR PRESS E AND AIM YOUR ULT TO THE SIDE THAT THEY WILL BOUNCE TO.
:Fairly straight forward. After a 0.25 sec cast time, Draven fires a lot of damage in a straight line that will come back after recast or hitting an enemy champ.
