Champion Build Guide

Taric Support s11

By zohmer
Introduction
Hi, I'm Zohmer and I'm just a casual Taric main. This guide was created as a resource for myself to remember everything I've learned about him from other guides and my own theory crafting. So this guide isn't intended to be the best one out there, only reason why it's published is because knowledge should be shared not hoarded.
Runes
The standard page is used for most match-ups. Switch Bone Plating for Second Wind if you're up against heavy poke for extra sustain.

Guardian is always good on Taric since he can easily proc it with his W. Font of Life helps your ADC to stay healthy during trades. Bone Plating helps you survive all ins and ganks. Revitalize is just generally good since both Q and W benefits from it. Presence of Mind helps with Taric's mana problems. And Legend: Tenacity is just the better of the other choices since 30% tenacity is always useful.

Front-line page is used for when you need to be your teams only front-line, compared to the standard page it sacrifices some utility for more bulk.
Summoner Spells
Use Flash and Ignite for most match-ups since it adds more kill pressure and can be used to negate some healing.

Switch Ignite for Exhaust if you don't need the extra kill pressure in lane or they don't have any healing for you to negate. Can also be worth taking if they have a lot of assassins/divers.

Switch Ignite for Heal if your ADC needs to take cleanse.
Laning Phase Items
You should always pick up Stealth Ward trinket, Steel Shoulderguards and 2 Health Potion's at the start of the game.

The reason for picking Steel Shoulderguards is because it's the best option for Taric since his AP scaling isn't that great and with his passive the extra AD will serve you well in the laning phase.

On your first back you should always pick up Tear of the Goddess to help with Taric's massive mana problems, this item should be sold when you buy your last item.
If possible you should get tier 1 Boots as well.

When you complete your 500 gold support item quest, you should switch your Stealth Ward trinket for Oracle Lens so you can start removing enemy vision.

Whenever you leave base make sure to have at least one Control Ward in your inventory. When you have gotten Vigilant Wardstone this rule is replaced by making sure it has at least one stack when you leave base.

Complete your Boots as soon as possible unless you need to rush your mythic. Get Ionian Boots of Lucidity most games since the summoner spell haste will allow you to use Flash more frequently to land your stun in big fights.

Boots of Swiftness are used if they have a lot of slows (ex; Janna, Ashe, Yuumi). Mercury's Treads are used if they are all AP or you need the tenacity. Plated Steelcaps are used if they are all AD.
Core items and mythics
When it comes to mythics you should get Shurelya's Battlesong if you need to be the teams engage otherwise get Locket of the Iron Solari.

An alternative item to these is Iceborn Gauntlet which should only be picked up if you need to get really tanky since it gives you a total of 750 health at full build due to it's mythic passive and also the slow helps with landing your stun in team fights, making the item good against high mobility champs such as Hecarim and Janna.

As for core items Taric should always pick up either Frozen Heart or Zeke's Convergence since the items give a nice amount of mana. Pick one of these up after completing your mythic item.
Frozen Heart should be used if you need to counter AD threats on their team otherwise get Zeke's Convergence.

Get Vigilant Wardstone at level 13 for an additional boost in stats (12% extra AD, health, AP and ability haste). But make sure to have Glacial Buckler first for the extra mana it provides.
Situational Items
Get these items if you need to get more tanky: (These are all great as your last item)

Gargoyle Stoneplate is especially good if you're the teams only front-line and Abyssal Mask is always good since it increases damage taken by targets you stun.

Dead Man's Plate and Force of Nature are great if you need to stick to your targets better. Thornmail should only be picked up if you absolutely need grievous Wounds.

As for more niche items we have these:

Knight's Vow is great if your ADC needs more protection.

Redemption is great if your team needs extra team fight power and Mikael's Blessing is great if you need to cleanse CC of your ADC in fights.

Anathema's Chains are great if you need to counter a specific carry on the enemy team (ex: hyper carries like Vayne, Jinx, Master Yi).

These items should not replace core build items.
Abilities
Start with Dazzle since it is the most useful ability on it's own. Get Bastion second so you can cover a wider area with your stun. Get Starlight's Touch at level 3 so you can start to sustain and give it another point at level 4 since Bravado resets two stacks of your Starlight's Touch per cast.

Then max Dazzle since its cost doesn't go up per rank and it's always useful to any situation.

Then rank Starlight's Touch to rank 4 since Bastion doesn't scale much per rank and at 4 stacks of Starlight's Touch you can get all stacks refunded with the basic combo Starlight's Touch > Auto > Auto > Dazzle > Auto > Auto.

Then Max Bastion before putting the last point in Starlight's Touch since Bastion scales better per rank then the last point in Starlight's Touch.

And as always put points in your Cosmic Radiance whenever you can (Level 6, 11, 16)
