I personally prefer Akali to Kassadin.
The whole kit is better.
Part of that is her ulti.

@BunkerBob:
In the military, that's called a Pincer attack.
You go in from one side, ally goes in from the other side, whoever meets the enemy first forces the target toward their ally.
If you were Kassadin, they still might have escaped and the ally could have been Akali - Two sides of a coin.

I have to agree with Bynum. Kassadin and Akali while different both have similar functionalities. While the range is shorter for
Riftwalk, the functionality is much higher than Akali's ult. Kassadin has the advantage of being able to dash in and out of combat, Akali uses shroud to dash in and out of combat, but as mentioned shroud is pretty easily countered by oracles, pink wards, and various forms of AoE's.
Personally I prefer Akali to Kassadin because I find her much easier to play

Talon, Morg, and Kennen are strong counters to Akali.
Talon - Great base dmg on AA and abilities, silence, huge nuke, great pokes.
Kennen - Akali can't do nothing when she's stunned, all of Ken's abilities can work when shes in her shroud, great sustain with Revolver and able to 1v1 Akali.
Morgana - Naturally beefy, her black shield stop damage, good CC, snare counters Akali's ult, great sustain.

I don't feel thats always true, especially on dominion. The sweeper shuts down talon and with a rylai's I don't have much trouble with Kennen or Morgana.

Yeah, but
There's pros and cons to each skill, but I still believe

Yeah, well, I think your belief is stupid.
You can't say a skill is better due to different functionality.
Can you Riftwalk 3 times within 10 seconds without worrying about your mana? Akali doesn't. If a full scale fight, an Akali on the winning side can shadow dance up to 8 times; once for every enemy death and thrice more for charges.
If Kassadin has a significantly longer (then shadow dance) cooldown and a ramping mana cost that would render him useless if he tried to pull off the same awesomeness that Akali can.
0% miss chance, once cast, you'll reach your target. Akali can also use Shadow Dance over walls if she has vision on the enemy.
Riftwalk CAN miss - That makes it less reliable and arguable inferior. :P
That's why Akali is fotm and Kassadin is not, even though they're both burst mage assassins.
Kassadin is systematically harder to play and less reliable. (Although skill good when played well.)
