Hey guys,
My name is Goliath. I've played League of Legends since season 2 and have mained top lane since season 3. I've been high Diamond in every season since season 4, peaking at Master tier. League of Legends has always been the main game that I have stuck with over the years.

Here is my OP.GG for anyone interested.

If you want to see me play, maybe learn a thing or two, or ask me some questions, you can find my stream here. Stop by some time, I'm always down for giving advice and helping you improve.

If streams aren't up you alley, you can also check out my YouTube channel here. I'm going to start uploading informative videos, as well as stream and gameplay highlights.

Sett is a tanky juggernaut champion that is capable of dishing out a good amount of damage and CC for your team, the unique thing about Sett is the lower the HP he gets the stronger he becomes!

If you like juggernaut or tanky champions you should consider picking up Sett.

Pros
+ Tanky
+ Has good CC
+ Doesn't use mana or energy
Cons
- Can be kited
- Cooldowns are long
- Not the best sustain

Versus Tanks

Conqueror
This rune is nice because it gives you some extra damage as well as healing. Since we’re melee the healing is actually pretty good. It’s also pretty easy to stack since your abilities give 2 stacks and your autos also give 2 stacks and since you can auto twice pretty quick that’s 4 stacks right there. If you throw in a Titanic Hydra you can get another auto reset for 6 quick stacks.

Triumph
This rune is kind of a must since the only other chose is Overheal here and we don’t really need that, Triumph is nice since we’ll have a lot of HP and it can give you some really clutch saves.

Legend: Tenacity
This rune is really nice since you do have problems with getting kited. Being a juggernaut I really recommend taking this in most games. Legend: Alacrity is viable if they have a very little amount of CC but that should be rare in most cases.

Coup De Grace
I recommend taking Coup De Grace or Last Stand, both seem viable and add a bit of extra DPS.

Second Wind
I personally like Second Wind over Bone Plating in most cases for the extra sustain. If you’re against an all-in bruiser though that combos a lot with their trades such as Renekton or Riven then you should opt for Bone Plating.

Overgrowth
You stack a ton of HP on this champion and HP synergizes really well with our kit so Overgrowth is a great scaling rune for Sett.

Versus Non-Tanks

Grasp of the Undying
This rune is really good into bruisers and champions that all-in you. Trade often because not only does it give you HP making you tankier but it also gives you a bit of sustain which can really help for laning phase. Sett is also pretty good at weaving in auto attacks so it’s fairly easy to get procs with this.

Demolish
This rune will help you take turrets quicker and get platings easier. Remember if your laner backs or you chunk them out to try to get that demolish proc before backing. This will also help your split push out.

Triumph
This rune is kind of a must since the only other choice is Overheal here and we don’t really need that. Triumph is nice since we’ll have a lot of HP and it can give you some really clutch saves.

Legend: Tenacity
This rune is really nice since you do have problems with getting kited being a juggernaut. I really recommend taking this in most games. Legend Alacrity is viable if they have a very little amount of CC but that should be rare in most cases.

Flash is a must on most champions and the same goes for Sett.

Teleport: Personally I always recommend taking teleport on top laners as it helps you pressure the map, get back to lane so you don’t miss waves, and overall allows you to play around objectives and join teamfights.

Note: Ignite is viable as a second summoner spell if you’re wanting to go for snowball and lane dominance. But like I said above if you’re trying to learn and get better at top lane I always recommend learning how to use Teleport. I also think Teleport helps you learn certain aspects of top lane and map awareness which are important for getting better at the game and role. Ignite is more of a cheese spell in my opinion and while it can be good for stomping people that may be worse than you; it gets much less impactful the higher elo you climb.

PASSIVE ABILITY
Pit Grit
INNATE - HEAVY HANDS:Sett's basic attacks alternate between a left punch then a right punch. Sett begins attacking with a left punch, and will reset back to it after 2 seconds of not performing a right punch.

Sett's right punch gains 50 bonus range, attacks at 8 times the left punch's attack speed, and deals 5 − 90 (based on level) (+ Attack damage icon 15% AD) Attack damage bonus physical damage.

INNATE - HEART OF THE HALF-BEAST: Sett gains Health regeneration 0.25 / 0.5 / 1 / 2 (based on level) health regeneration per second for every 5% of his missing health.

Q
Knuckle Down
ACTIVE: For the first 1.5 seconds, Sett gains Movement speed 30% bonus movement speed while moving towards enemy champions.

Sett's next two basic attacks within 5 seconds each deal bonus physical damage. Consuming an attack will refresh the timer.

Knuckle Down resets Sett's basic attack timer.

W
Haymaker
PASSIVE: Sett stores 100% of post-mitigation damage taken as Grit on his secondary resource bar, up to 50% of his Health maximum health. Each instance of stored Grit decays by 30% every second after 4 seconds.

ACTIVE: Sett blasts an area in the target direction, dealing physical damage to enemies hit. Enemies hit through the center take Hybrid penetration true damage instead.

DOWN BUT NOT OUT: Sett also gains a rapidly decaying Hybrid shield for 3 seconds equal to the Grit expended.

E
Facebreaker
ACTIVE: Sett pulls in enemies at his front and back, dealing physical damage and slowing them by 50% for 0.5 seconds.

If Facebreaker affects at least one enemy on each side, all enemies are Stun icon stunned for 1 second upon landing.

R
The Show Stopper
Sett suppresses the target enemy champion and then dashes unstoppably at a fixed distance toward it, carrying it along for 1.5 seconds before slamming the target into the ground.

Enemies within the impact area take physical damage, reduced by up to 40% at the edge, and are slowed by 99% for 1.5 seconds.

The dash will prematurely end upon reaching a wall that cannot be dashed through.

Starting Items

Doran's Shield or Doran's Blade
Go Doran's Blade against other tanky matchups to get that extra damage to push them in early and also provide a little bit of sustain still.

I’d go Doran's Shield into a lot of the harder matchups that can all-in you or trade a lot. I’d especially take Doran's Shield into any ranged matchup.

Build Order

Black Cleaver or Trinity Force
Black Cleaver is a great choice if your team has a lot of physical damage and you want to go for the more tanky and less damage build. Trinity Force is really good if you’re going to be split-pushing a lot more because it helps you take turrets very quickly and the Sheen can flow pretty nice with him since you’re weaving in auto attacks between your abilities.

Upgrade Boots
Sett needs either Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads to help out with his stats. I like to finish Black Cleaver before I upgrade my boots, but if you're laning versus a hard lane such as Jax or Fiora you should try to upgrade to Ninja Tabi ASAP.

Mercury's Treads is somewhat optional as in teamfights you would want to endure as much auto attacks as possible from the enemy ADC, but if they have some hard, easy to land CC (like Morgana or Lux binding) that can prevent you from going in, you should go with Mercury's Treads for the tenacity increase.

Sterak's Gage
This item is amazing on most juggernauts and the same goes for Sett because it provides us with damage, tankiness from the HP and shield plus some much needed tenacity so you don’t get kited around as much.

Titanic Hydra
This item will help you wave clear quicker on Sett and also gives us more HP which is amazing. Remember that the active on this item is an auto reset meaning you can auto attack and then activate this item to instantly auto again bypassing your attack speed auto timer.

Randuin's Omen
I would go for a Randuin's Omen here if they have any form of crit on the team especially an adc building crit. The active is also quite nice on Sett because it gives a big AOE slow and you should be able to jump into teamfights and clump everyone up with your E if you get the ideal fight.

Note: If they do not have any crit on the team I would recommend going for a Dead Man's Plate or Guardian Angel. Guardian Angel is good if you think you’re going to die but Dead Man's Plate is better if you think you’re tanky enough to live and want some extra movement speed.

Spirit Visage
At this point you’ll want to pick up some magic resist most likely unless they’re full AD. Spirit Visage is great because your hp regen from your passive should be quite high by now at this point in the game.

Note: If they have champions that have spammable spells or damage over time such as Singed, Cassiopeia, Rumble, etc… then I would recommend going Adaptive Helm over Spirit Visage.

Late game with Sett you should be looking to splitpush since your 1v1 should be pretty strong. You should be looking to teleport in to help your team fight over objectives. Normally for splitpushing you want to be opposite side of the map to whatever big objective is up or is going to be spawning. For example, if baron is up you want to be splitting bot lane, and if dragon is up then you want to be splitting top lane assuming your teleport is up.

With Sett I would be trying to look to TP in a bit early because you can really set up fights for your team. The most ideal fight for Sett would be to Ult their frontline into their backline and then pull everyone together with your E and then smash them all with your W and using Randuin's Omen active if you have it up.

Sett also has pretty good peel so be looking to peel your carries if they’re doing well. For example, if an Akali jumps onto one of your carries you can use your ultimate to punch them away and hopefully toss them directly back into their team dealing huge AOE damage to everybody.

Thanks for reading my Sett guide! If you liked it then consider tossing me an up vote as it really helps to get my guide out there. If it helped you out at all, then let me know in the comments. If you think I left something out, let me know as well. I always enjoy hearing feedback whether it be positive or negative. Also if you want to ask me any questions regarding Sett or top lane in general you can find my stream here.
