Well many people know Jax for his late game, but don't like him because his early game sucks. But if you get past early game you will be one of the best duelist in the game and can easily 1v1 anyone except for some adc's if they are ahead. Other than that you should be able to 1v1 many people except for some people that counter you like malphite, nasus, etc. This guide will explain why AP/AD Jax, Tanky/DMG Jax, Playing in lane, and what to do if you are getting ganked.

Why AP/AD Jax you might ask? Well since 5.22 came out, even though Tri-Force isnt the best for Jax now, they buffed a item Jax could have gone but it wasn't the best for him, guinsoo's was buffed and now has a little AoE it helps him out farming wise and damage wise. And I know the item i'm about to say might be really dumb, but Hextech Gunblade, the reason for this is since you're W scales with AP you will be doing lots of mixed damage you might wanna go this, I like this because it gives you a lot more CC and it gives you AD/AP so it helps you in damage wise, if you want to go tanky damage go Steraks, or Titanic.

Why Tanky/DMG Jax you might ask.. aswell? Well since the release of 5.19 lot's of new tank items were introduced. Item's like Sterak's, Deadman's, and changes of some items, like Randuin's, and they all helped tanks. Even though many people go mainly dmg I liked to go Tanky/DMG before 5.22, now I try to go damage mainly, but to the point, why Tanky/DMG because even though you might think you wouldn't be doing much DMG, you will be doing damage, a lot, Blade, Titanic, and Sterak's, you will have about 250 DMG, and you would have 900 health with just 2 items. And with all the other tanky items you could stack about 1850-2000 health, and will have about 3800-4000 health with tanky Jax and still do really dumb damage.

So playing in lane, jax's worst time, mainly because you're laning just sucks. What you want to do laning phase
PLAYING AGGRESSIVE
So you mainly don't want to play aggressive because from the experience ive had, you'll mainly get camped but I would try not to play aggressive if you know you could win against the jungler.
PLAYING DEFENSIVE
So this is what you want to try to do, because you will loose a lot of engages as Jax (at least before level 6) but if you engage make sure you can win or else you will die (unless you are ahead).

But what could go wrong when getting ganked, Best to Worst

You don't die and only have to q away
Having a enemy waste both summs and not kill you

Worst
You die wasting flash
You waste flash
You just die

So if you get ganked here's what you might want to do
If you are near tower and since they have gotten rid of Stealth wards its a little harder but you get 2 wards now so, if you are near tower and get ganked by someone that has some cc ward behind or in front and q away as fast as possible but if you are getting ganked behind and you are under tower wait to E and once they go on you try to E and reactivate it as fast as possible because if you use it right away and it reactivates that is the perfect time for them to go in.
