The ALP Guide to Blitzcrank Jungle

By AverageLilliaPlayer
About Me
Hello, my name is Average Lillia Player (or ALP for short) though ingame I go by Yoon. As the name suggests, I main Lillia and prefer to avoiding laning as a whole, often queuing for Jungle or Support (but mostly Jungle). Almost all of my time in the game is spent making extremely strange picks in the Jungle work out, anything from meta to borderline throwing, I'm determined to make it work.
Champion Introduction
Abilities

Blitzcrank, The Great Steam Golem
Catcher, Tank, Support, Mana, Melee, Magic
Clearing: Bad, Doesn't Fullclear
Ganking: Situational, Very Good
Speciality: Forcing Out-Of-Position
Why Jungle Blitzcrank? Blitz in the jungle used to be a very good pick, capable of dishing out a lot more damage then he should've been and having a mediocre-bad clearpseed. Nowadays, it is only a "for fun" pick to annoy enemies with and act as a second support. Definitely do not go into this pick thinking you'll be able to carry the game, because you won't.. but! It will be a fun expierence.
Pros and Cons

Pros

➺ Hook Champion
➺ Always Useful
➺ Can Burst
➺ Versatile
➺ Great Ganks
➺ Intimidating

Cons

➺ Awful Clear
➺ Telegraphed
➺ Awful Objectives
➺ High Cooldowns
➺ Skillshot Hook
➺ Bad Duelist
Builds

AD CRIT
Not many builds find success on Blitz jungle anymore, but Crit is the least likely to throw. It doesn't rely on higher cooldowns, scaling with his E, and allows him to hold his own a little bit in fights while maintaining a much, much healthier clear speed.

AP
This used to be much more reliable than it is now. It scales with his ultimate and his Q, allowing for big burst damage when hooking champions and ulting them in place. Because of the silence, they can't really escape either. This is particularly good at saving teammates or fights under tower.

AD BRUISER
I don't have many games with bruiser, but it adds up to be a healthy clear like crit is. Instead of being on the squishier side, however, bruiser allows him to stay alive much longer after stun-locking an enemy.
Skill Order
Q
Rocket Grab

3 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 13
W
Overdrive

1 / 14 / 15 / 17 / 18
E
Power Fist

2 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 9
R
Static Field

6 / 11 / 16
> > >
To begin with, Blitzcrank must resist the urge to start and max out his Q. Only start with hook if you plan on invading, and be prepared to have an incredibly hellish clearspeed afterwards. In regular games, start with W into E into Q. When in regards to maxing out your abilities, max out your E first if you are doing one of the AD builds, and max out your W last in all of them.
Ability Usage in Jungle
PASSIVE ABILITY
Mana Barrier
➺ Periodically, when damaged to 30% health, Blitzcrank generates a shield equal to 30% maximum mana, lasting for ten seconds.

➺ In the Jungle, this serves very little purpose outside of accidentally activating when you're just trying to clear. It can be useful in ganks or fights to keep you alive a little bit longer too.
Q
Rocket Grab
➺ Blitzcrank fires his hand, dealing magic damage and hooking the nearest enemy towards himself.

➺ In the Jungle, this is used as the primary (and truthfully only) ganking tool. It's used over walls to pull enemies over and under towers or into unfavorable positions.

➺ This scales off of Ability Power.
W
Overdrive
➺ Blitzcrank shifts into overdrive, gaining bonus Attack Speed and Movement Speed. When Overdrive ends, Blitzcrank is slowed.

➺ In the Jungle, this is used for his early game clear speed. Around the mid to late game, W is used to scurry off into lanes for hook angles.
E
Power Fist
➺ Blitzcrank empowers his next basic attack with bonus physical damage and knocks up whatever target he hits.

➺ In the Jungle, this is commonly used after a Q to prolong the stun. It's the primary damaging ability on 2/3 of his jungle builds as well.

➺ This scales off of Attack Damage, and slightly off of Ability Power.
R
Static Field
➺ PASSIVE: While Static Field is not on cooldown, Blitzcrank's basic attacks apply a stack to the target. After one second, one stack is consumed to deal them magic damage.

➺ ACTIVE: Blitzcrank detonates a static field that destroys the enemy shields, deals magic damage, and silences them.

➺ In the Jungle, the passive can be used to help kill single target camps quicker. Alongside this, it can be used in an AP build to burst enemies.

➺ This scales off of Mana and Ability Power.
Objectives
DRAGON
Blitzcrank cannot solo any objective, and dragons are not different. He can do it with help, but the clear will always be slow and painful. Honestly, he benefits his team more by ignoring objectives and going for kills exclusively.

He benefits the most from Cloud Soul. The bonus out of combat movement speed allows for easier ganks with Q and better positioning.

VOIDGRUBS
Blitz also cannot solo these either, but he can do them a bit faster when he has his ult and lets the passive do the work.

RIFT HERALD
Herald can be solo'd by Blitzcrank, but it is painfully slow. It's his best objective though, because of how bad his clear is, so go for it when it's uncontested.

VORACIOUS ATAKAHN
Voracious Atakahn will spawn in lower-action games with fewer kills/damage, taking root in whichever side of the map has the most drama within it. Because of this, it'll be the most common version for Blitzcrank to face. It cannot be solo'd by Blitzcrank and requires all of the team to be with him. If attacked by the enemy, abandon Atakahn and turn to hook one of the out of position enemy teammates if possible. Upon killing him, your team is granted a free, one-time use of False Life but instead of reviving right in the middle of the fight, you blink back to your fountain. This is best used to secure kills right after the Atakahn fight, especially if stolen from the enemy. You also gain a small gold bonus buff to killing enemy champions.

RUINOUS ATAKHAN
Ruinous Atakahn will spawn in high-intensity games full of damage and death, taking root in whichever side of the map felt the most carnage. Blitzcrank again, cannot solo the objective and should use a similar tactic as Voracious Atakahn when fighting it. Upon slaying Ruinous Atakhan, you are granted Crown of Carnage which permanently boosts rewards from epic monsters slain aswell as 6 stacks of Bloody Petals. This buff should be used to snowball the game, with your team putting a great deal of emphasis on securing objectives.

BARON NASHOR
Blitzcrank needs his team to do a majority of the damage to be able kill Baron in any reasonable amount of time.

ELDER DRAKE
Blitzcrank needs his team to do a majority of the damage to be able kill Elder in any reasonable amount of time.
Clearing

RED SIDE
OR

BLUE SIDE
Both sides are bad to start with a full clear, beacause he doesn't full clear to begin with. However if you have to pick one, start on blue side and come here second. Following the same mention to the left, this is the most optimal starting side if you must full clear. Start Blue Sentinel into Gromp then Wolves.
Core Items
CRITZCRANK
AP
BRUISERTANK
Feats of Strength
BOOTS OF SWIFTNESS
Although not the only boots you can build, Swifties are the most applicable for the easiest build for Blitz in the Jungle. These boots grant you bonus Movement Speed in comaprison to otherboots, and a resistance to slows. This makes Blitzcrank's ganking ability multiply at least twofold, giving him better positioning power to set up for hooks.

FEATS OF STRENGTH
Feats of Strength is gained by completing two of three objectives before the enemy team. These objectives include 3 epic monsters slain, first to three kills, and first tower. For Blitzcrank, the literal only applicable of the three could be first to three kills, but that is entirely reliant on your team to follow up on any hooks you may get. An invade could be a good shove into the right direction.

ARMORED ADVANCE
Upgrading BOS grants you Swiftmarch, providing a buff to the Movement Speed as a base stat and providing another passive that.. also boosts Movement Speed. Yeah, these upgrades are a bit underwhelming in comparison to the other boot upgrades, but it can certainly help a weak Blitz escape from enemies with good dueling power.
Summary

IN CONCLUSION
-
EARLY GAME: Every part of the early game for Blitzcrank is just royally awful. He can't clear, he can't do much damage, and the best thing going for him kill-wise is his ability to lock some poor innocent soul under your tower. Because of this, we need to act entirely around his Q and the off chance he can find a good hook before he's invaded.
MID GAME: Before long you should find yourself having an easier time locking someone down, maybe doing a bit of noticable damage in the process, and begging for your teammates to come and help you. By no means is he a duelist, and you shouldn't be playing like one even if you're building items that can burst. The only time you should be trying to kill enemies on your own is if you're in a position where you are EXTREMELY fed.
LATE GAME: Even now, you aren't going to stand a chance damage wise against other junglers. You might be able to kill a very squishy support or an ADC that is far behind, but that's kind of the extent of your killpower. Instead, you will find that your utility based cooldowns are extremely low, and your clearspeed is noticably about as fast as a normal jungler... emphasis on normal, not good. Use lower cooldowns to help your team get kills rather than yourself.
