I think masteries were done wrong, considering how quickly people can grind it. Riot did it wrong and I think it's stupid. You should be able to drop ranking if you do poorly in a game, otherwise everyone is going to have level 5 champion mastery on everything
Agreed. Much like how decaying works in higher elo? But with added drops on poor performance?
Cause yeah, it kinda feels more like an obligation than something to strive for atm.

I agree that there should be more of a challenge to achieving Mastery level 5, a promo, or a pre-request just something else. It shouldn't just be a grind fest, because grinding is lame.
or are you just mad because someone else already mastered Bard?

This brings up a good point that I haven't thought about yet, if it becomes an obligation to master a champion before playing them in ranked. Just because of an occasional toxic players that's going to go on tilt/rage mode just because their teams Fizz didn't grind the 20 games required for level 5 mastery, and then proceeds to loose lane, even if it's just by a little bit. If that starts happening then the Mastery system will need to go entirely, or at least from being displayed in ranked.
But in it's current state I still see more Good then Bad with the system, it just needs to be refined that's all.
Am I the only one who doesn't really pay attention to this? It's just some added flavor to the game that will be entertaining for maybe a week or two... We did fine without anything like this for so long which leads me to question why everyone is so enthralled by it and insist on it becoming actual proof of a person's mastery of said champion... Idk, I get the feeling that rito just added this for ***** and giggles rather than having an actual vision regarding the system.
Either way, so far only got A+ and S-... I die too much :X

At least you can still accumulate points for a champion that you have at level 5 rather than that just being it.
So maybe Riot has plans to add higher tiers latter down the road.
I honestly think this system means basically nothing as is.
In response to the comments about "mastering" a champion before playing them in ranked: I think the system will continue to mean nothing if normal games count for anything. You don't "master" a champion by playing them casually. That probably sounds really snobby, and it is, but it's also true to an extent.

It's more of the fact that I've already mastered 3 champions and don't see the point of masteries anymore. I thought it'd be a way of saying "Oh ****, this guy has 500 Twitch games under his belt. Maybe we should let him do his twitch game".
But instead it's just another *rolls eyes* someone played 15 games as Twitch
