Barrier . I also recommand not taking
Exhaust but it can be efficient against

Runes
So in this guide I covered a lot of runes that you can run on Darius and wich all are effective and we'll start by the first Runes set which is the most popular and efficient one :
Conqueror : by far, it's the best rune to get on
Darius and it's effictive to do a lot of damage and can "counter" some of the tanks like
Dr. Mundo and this because of the true damage that you can get it , Rune Description : Entering combat generates one stack every second for the next 3 seconds. After reaching 4 stacks, your next basic attack against an enemy champion consumes all stacks to grants 10 - 35 (based on level) bonus Attack Damage for 3 seconds and converts 20% of your damage to champions to true damage for the duration. All stacks will wear off after 3 seconds out of combat.
Triumph : Can be effective when diving because of the amount of health that you get after killing your enemy, Rune Description : Champion Damage rating takedowns, after a 1-second delay, restore 12% of your missing health and grant an additional 20 Gold .
Legend: Alacrity : the most thing that you can get from this rune is the attack speed which helps a lot to applying Passive stacks , Rune Description : Gain 3% (+1.5% per Legend stack) bonus attack speed, up to 18% with 10 stacks.
Coup de Grace : which is basically dealing more damage to low health enemies and I really find it soo good other than the other runes , Rune Description : Deal 7% increased damage to champions below 40% maximum health.
Bone Plating : this actually gives you more resistances and reduce the amout of damage you get from your opponent , Rune Desciption : After taking damage from an enemy champion, for 1.5 seconds, the next 3 spells or attacks you receive from the SAME enemy champion deal 25 − 50 less damage.
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO USE
Bone Plating ,
Second Wind can do the job, it helps you regenerate your health faster after taking some damage, can be really OP if combined with
Doran's Shield speacially after the buff it got in the preaseaon .
Demolish : I really choose it for the extra damage for the turrets, can be very efficient if your team is behind or when you need to splitpush , Rune Description : You generate stacks on enemy structures within 600 units, up to 6 after 3 seconds. Your next attack versus a structure with 6 stacks deals 100 (+ 30% of your maximum health) bonus physical damage. Demolish will only go on cooldown upon triggering the damage.
Sometimes you're able to run
Phase Rush specially on the Full Lethality build that I create it above and we'll now discuss the Runes choice (Runes that I already mentioned previously are not taken into consideration here)
Phase Rush : Basically, it gives bonus MS after applying 3 basic attacks or abilities on a champ and so good to stink to a champion and apply the 5 stacks of your Passive , Rune Description : Basic attacks and abilities generate stacks on enemy champions hit, up to one per attack or cast. Applying 3 stacks to a target within a 3 second period grants you 25% - 40% (based on level) movement speed
Nimbus Cloak : After casting your R you gain some MS , Rune Description : Casting your ultimate ability, after a 1.5-second delay, grants ghosting and 100 bonus movement speed for 2.5 seconds. The movement speed decays over the last 1 second with 60 seconds cooldown .
Celerity : The main reason to get this, it the MOVEMENT SPEED, as you know Darius is soo good with MS that lets you stink to your enemy to get more
Hemorrhage stacks, this works well also with
Ghost or
Youmuu's Ghostblade , Rune Description : Movement speed bonuses are 8% more effective on you (THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE MOVEMENT SPEED YOU GET FROM BOOTS)
Scorch : and it's the most one that I like which can "burn" the enemy champ dealing MAGIC DAMAGE which is good for combining AP and AD, Rune Description : Your next ability hit sets champions on fire dealing 10 − 30 (based on level) bonus magic damage after 1 second.
Feel Free to take
Waterwalking if your team is interested in fighting in Rivers or
Nullifying Orb when laning vs an high AP champion or team composition .
Gathering Storm also can be good when you feel that your match is going to last longer .
As you can see,
Sorcery is so good to gain extra MS .
And Finaly, the runes for the Tanky Darius which are mainly
Resolve runes :
Grasp of the Undying : it deals more damage, heal you and increase the amount of max health you have , Rune Description : Dealing or receiving damage within 2 seconds generates one stack every second. At 4 stacks, your next basic attack within 6 seconds, against an enemy champion deals 4% of your maximum health bonus magic damage, restores 2% of your maximum health, and permanently grants 5 bonus health. The empowered attack duration refreshes whenever dealing or receiving damage.
Overgrowth : Thiis the only choice you can have in this tree, it just heals you from dying minions near you , Rune Description :Every 8 monsters or enemy minions that die near you permanently grants 3 bonus health.
Taste of Blood : Heal when you damage an enemy champion, Works well with your Q
Decimate , Rune Description : Damaging an enemy champion heals you for 18 - 35 (based on level) (+ 20% bonus AD) (+ 10% AP).
Relentless Hunter : Gain out of combat MS after takedowns (one stack per enemy champion) , Rune Description : Gain 8 (+ 8 per Bounty Hunter stack) out-of-combat movement speed. Earn a Bounty Hunter stack for champion takedowns, up to one per unique enemy champion.

Items
So, I won't talk too much about the items and builds but I'll try to make things clearer and explain why I chose those runes .
Start
Doran's Blade if you're really counting on going AD
And
Doran's Shield for some tank
The first build (see top of the page) which is AD+Tank is more common and popular because it focuses on
Darius main role which is
Tank and grants some AD and I highly recommend using it for all of your games .
The second build which is the Full Crit one is made for "fun" , it's soo good to see your ennemies dying with one W
Crippling Strike
Try building full crit only if you have the lead and advantage on your enemy team with some tanky items so that you don't get one shoted .
Full lethality build is another weird build but really works well specially if you combine
Mobility Boots,
Phage passive,
Youmuu's Ghostblade and with some extra MS from your supports . And they can call you THE FAST .
You can deal a large amount of damage and you'll get some Life Steal thanks to the
Blade of the Ruined King and can deal some MAGIC DAMAGE which is good for combining AP and AD,
Edge of Night for some Health ,
Duskblade of Draktharr for removing some enemy vision and you're all done .
We'll talk now about BOOTS :
Take
Ninja Tabi if you're playing against mainly AD champs for bonus armor .
Take
Mercury's Treads if you're playing against mainly AP champs for bonus magic resist.
Take
Boots of Swiftness only if you're facing a team with a lot of
crowd control that reduces slow by 25% but only in extreme cases .
Take
Mobility Boots in case if you REALLY NEED the MS and when building some Full Lethality or Full Crit as I mentionned above .
AVOID TAKING
Ionian Boots of Lucidity &
Berserker's Greaves
The most important thing with
Darius is that you have to build
Black Cleaver as a first item with gives you AD, Damage and CDR .
Build tank on
Darius if you're facing a team of
Assassin
or when your enemy is building
Tank . Building
Tank can help soo much speacially if you're loosing your lane or when you're not fed .
Lastly don't forget that
Spirit Visage gives you a lot +30% healing from all resources which is soooo good with your Q
Decimate specially in team fights
Your items build and order vary from the team you're facing, your team,and specially you so don't stick to it . Feel free to use anything you want .

Strategy - Tactic
Since
Darius is a very strong champion and can punish enemy mistakes causing death, I always use this Technic (Specially when I have an advantage on the enemy) to block the enemy from Farming and gaining gold and XP
This method will let you push lanes faster and more effective at low elos because usually players at that stage are bad at farming under turret
