Pros and Cons

Pros:
Fun to play
Very Mobile
Nice burst
Can sustain in fights if played well
Fast jungle clear

Cons:
Engage reliant in team fights
Cant deal with tanks/bruisers well
Somewhat squishy even when tank

Runes

Seals: 9 Armor
Needed in the early game

Glyph: 12.6 Magic Resist
Needed in the early game unless versing full ad comp, in that case you may take attackspeed glyphs for clear speed

Mark: 8.55 Attack Damage
Easier jungle clear, more damage

Quints: 7.75 Attack Damage
Easier jungle clear, more damage

You can swap Marks or Quints to lethality if you plan on going the Assassin build but clearing the jungle early may not be as good, it will however give you a better presence in fights as it scales.

Skill Max

Basically max R > Q > W > E

Kayn's Q is his most effective tool for clearing the jungle which he relies on the most, his W is needed for duels and chasing targets where as his E is mostly used as an escape and doesn't need levels to be used effectively as the game progresses, however it is a useful heal during early game jungling.

Also Kayn's most useful W Q combo which gives the most burst can be used more often the lower the cooldown on those abilities.

When playing Top or Mid Kayn into a range opponent however W may be better as you will rely on it more in trades.

Shadow Assassin vs. The Darkin

During the game after you deal enough damage to champions you will have the choice to either pick The Darkin transformation or to become The Shadow Assassin this will affect your gameplay and abilities in a number of ways.

If you pick The Darkin you are arguably a better dualist and have the ability to sustain in trades/teamfights which can be a safer option for your team, The Shadow Assassin however is more feast/famine in needing to snowball as most assassins are.

If your learning the champion i suggest use The Darkin first however the more comfortable you are the better The Shadow Assassin is for you. It is very important to gank during the early game as your transformations one of the biggest power spikes you will get.

Ganking

I suggest ganking at level 3 when you have your Q W E.
The best way to gank with kayn is to use your e to go through the thicker walls that will not have wards, basically be creative land your w and you should be fine.
